    Tipping

Should one tip the instructor when receiving a golf lesson? If so, how much is customary?

I've never heard of it. IMHO since you paid for his/her service I don't see why you'd tip. Do you tip your mechanic, plumber, etc.

Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

If he/she were making minimum wage yes but since the hourly rate is more than 5 times the hourly minimum wage I think they should give you more tips than what you asked for.

I always thought tipping was for "exemplenary service and service beyond the call"----the way tipping is going now the next thing you know we will be tipping the mailman. OH yeah we already have GST But alas he does'nt get it either.
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I was just curious. Asking because I took a lesson last night and, afterwards, the instructor kept lingering kinda like busboys do after they deliver your luggage. Either that or he wanted my phone number.

It's not standard to tip. If you really wanted to, then go for it, but if it was an average lesson, i don't see the need.

I'd say the more appropriate tip for an instructor (if you chose to) would be an end of season gift after getting a series of lessons ... or even if it was just a few from your club pro. A nice bottle of wine or similar in september/october time.

Also, if you have the type of instructor that schedules you for 45 mins and spends a good hour or more with you when he doesn't have more students after you, that is someone to tip, but again I would suggest that a gift is more appropriate than cash.

I agree 100%. I'm actually dealing with the same sort of situation but in a different industry, the tattoo industry. The shop has an hourly rate, but after the 30 hours I have booked, I'll be giving the artist a bottle of whatever he drinks.
