Question about bees
About 3 weeks ago, while checking out the underside of my deck (fully skirted) I found a small honey bee hive the size of a fist. It had no bees in it, so I took it and destroyed it.
3 days ago, out of nowhere, near dusk I saw hundreds of bees in the two trees in my back yard and 30-40 near the roof of my neighbour's house. After that, they were gone till this evening near dusk when I saw about 20-30 bees in one of my trees only.
I have checked the underside of my deck and had a look at the trees (what I can see due to branches and leaves) and can't see any hives.
What can I do about this? Is it likely the bees have another hive in my back yard? Why are the congragating in my tree which has no flowers?
Thanks

This was/is happening in my neighborhood also. But upon closer inspection they aren't bee's, they are a small june bug type. Never seen these before, have no idea what they are but there are lots of them.

They fly very similar. Swarm around the trees. They are smaller than a June bug about the same size as a honey bee. Hard greyish shell. I've only seen them up close when they land on the ground. Going to look up the internet for a pic.

Damned. The next time they show up I am going to try to capture one and have a closer look.
Are they likely to damage vegetation? Is there a spray to get rid of them?

I noticed a few eves ago the same bugs in the trees at my house, i thought that were bees as well , only that they don't "buzz" ,they're quiet when they fly.
Any bugologists out there that can shed some light? At the end of the day ... It gets dark

Oh boy. These bug are probably white grubs. These bugs dive in your lawn after dark hatch their eggs that eventually feed on your lawn from the root. They eat up everything. They are dreadful.
They are often mistaken as bees since you only see them at dusk. Catch one if you can. If this is what you have best get a lawn treatment immediately cause you won’t have a lawn to look at. See this Ontario web site.

My mother-in-law’s neighbour had hundreds around his trees. When I came out of the house I told the neighbour what they were. He said, “No, no they are experimental bugs that the government let go in to control black flies. I laughed, turned around and told my M-in-L to get a lawn treatment fast. By the end of the summer no more lawn next door.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

If they are the white grubs, it is truly amazing how they can strip your lawn. I had 2 huge patches down to dirt, and nothing else! Nothing a little topsoil and 20 kg of grass seed couldn't fix...but I agree, get the lawn treated.

This might be it. My neighbor had his lawn completely wrecked by white grubs. Funny thing is it wasn't the grubs that ate the lawn. It was a skunk! I saw it just digging like mad trying to eat up the grubs. Tore the guys lawn apart in one night.
I know there are white grubs around because I was planting some flowers for my wife and dug a bunch up.(Not on my lawn, just off it near the ravine.) I am going to buy some insecticide laced fertalizer tomorrow just in case."Get your smile on!"

Damned. I have had spraying done the last 2 years since they ate up most of my lawn 3 years ago. I spent a lot of time bringing my lawn back into good shape. First thing Tuesday I am calling the Nutrilawn guys for another treatment.
Damned those little ***s.

Can we all come over to watch--it will be easier than going down to Parliament hill--I want to see who's house will catch fire first.
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

Back to bees. We seem to have a number of them that continuously go under our deck via the space between boards. I thought there may be a hive there but I've looked and nothing. Never seen this behaviour before. Anyone??

Moochie,
Believe me you have a hive if its indeed bees going in. If its mud wasps (long tails) maybe they are gathering wet dirt/mud for a nest.not likely Wait til night tear up a deck board and take a look with a flashlight. after you locate it (hive)use a commercial spray to take care of em.
