2007 Match Play Tourney: Need your opinion
To all of you entered in the match play,
We have a small issue with the Chris St Michael vs mbarroso match. Chris cannot commit to play this week as he had prior commitements. mbarroso is available. Therefore, Chris wants to withdraw but I don't think it's fair to him as mbarroso entered on Sunday as an alternate to bobblehead who withdrew because he simply couldn't commit to play.
So I offered Chris and mbarroso an extension and still awaiting response from Chris on this. Another option would have been to accept Chris' withdrawal and replace him with an alternate (to face mbarroso) or replace mbarroso with the 2nd alternate (which I'm not sure it would solve the situation as Chris cannot play much if at all this week).
I'm not sure I want to penalize Chris when he was clearly available in the prior weeks but, because of circumstances out of his control and not even related to him, he was given a new opponent but Chris cannot play this week.
I'm not sure where to go on this. I know not everybody will be happy with the final decision and I'm ok with that.
Thoughts???
Thanks
LBH

LBH,
How about this. Due to the circumstances, as long as the match is booked prior to the deadline, and within a week of the deadline, it should be OK. But after the match is booked, if anyone backs out, they forfeit.
Also, alternates should only be allowed within the first round, otherwise it's like a bye to the second round for them.It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I like that idea. Alternates for 1st round only for sure...

I agree and sounds very fair.

I think any scenario where Chris is forced to withdraw is unfair since he was originally in and available to play well before the deadline. The fact that his original draw withdrew shouldn't penalize him.
I agree that if he and mbarroso can work out a match with an extension that would be best but if it can't then I think Chris should advance since that was the original rule for the tournament. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

All of the above is fair---after all there is not a million dollars on the line.
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I agree, but if Mike and Chris can't work out a time, the other alternative could be given a chance to do so. But whatever, Chris stays in.
