Have you considered a different motorbike, either less cc's or less sporty?
Rates are often very high if one is male and young (under 30). Add a fast looking bike......insurance premiums are typically through the roof.
This goes for cars that are sporty and/or have higher than average rate to be stolen.

ive looked around, but nothing else really appeals to me... it falls in the 401-500cc class, so it theoretically should be cheaper on insurance. talk about milking people for driving something other than a car!
as for the cars comment. i am primary driver on a brand new fully loaded mazda 3 GT, and im paying over 1000 less a year than the quotes ive got for the bike... i just think its rediculous

Have you tried Kanetix.ca using various scenarios? This site was good for comparing life and other types of insurance. No experience with their motorcycle insurance:

Premium (SIC) Here is one for you..IN Nova Scotia I paid 147 for a years coverage...move to Ottawa area and I pay 799! 39 years of MC operation, claim free and riding all over 1200 cc. C R I M I N AL ! I was speaking to an insurance agent about my home and vehicle insurance yesterday she said to go with Rider/Ryder(SIC) next time as they are the best...

I too have been looking at bikes (having rode off road for years). With an M1, rates for me are about 1200 for the same bike but I am 41 (read: old).
That is a steal for that bike though.

I think it would be cheaper to not bother insuring, and out run the cops

How are you going to put the phone book on the seat so that you can see over the handlebars? I know Canadian Tire has a sale on bungee cords right now. If I'm over there today, I'll check out the prices for ya.

Keep calling around. Only insure it for liability. Don't insure it for theft and collision.

Try calling an insurance broker like Smith Petrie, Carr and scott... let them shop you around and find you the best deal. When i got my car insurance they found me a quote 1k lower then the average online quote I got
Scott - Golf...Fail.

good idea, but the thought of my parents seeing me on the 6 oclock news wouldnt be a good thing
not everyone can be 6feet tall dude... i can see over the handel bars quite fine, ive been ridding bikes for years
the quotes i got were for no collision and no theft. and 3000 deductable for damage to others
i have decided to pass on the bike, i would have really loved it, but friggen insurance companies have put a downer on it! some people should be thrown in jail

I'd stick with the Mazda GT fella... You made a wise choice not to get a bike.... you're much wiser than your 21 years let on...

Buy the bike and re-sell it. That is an excellent price for the bike.

Buy the bike, put the pink tassels currently on your Supercycle onto the Ninja and send a picture of it to the insurance companies. There is no way someone driving a bike with pink tassels will pay more than $500/year.
I can't believe I'm this smart and I still haven't got a call-back from the guys at Jeopardy. I guess taking 7 years to graduate high school doesn't put you at the top of the potential contestant list. They'll come around.Let's put a Smile on that Face!
