Wedge Regroove or Replace
I have a set of Black Nickle Vokeys I've been using for three- four years now. Noticed the face and grooves getting seriously worn down. When does one know if its time to regroove/ replace wedges? Is regrooving even possible or did I just make that up lol

Regrooving is certainly possible.
If you really like the look and feel of the wedges then it's worth getting it done.

How much can re-grooving a wedge set you back?

Not much if you buy the re-grooving tool from Golfworks and do it yourself.

The problem is that Vokeys have square grooves. They'll have to be sent away for re-grooving and re-finishing. If you want to spend the bucks, Nomad Golf WRX (http://www.nomadgolfwrx.com/) does amazing work. Everyone raves about his stuff.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

New Wedge gets my vote.
Forged wedges are soft carbon steel and they do wear out.
Unless you send it out to be refinished you are not likely to be happy with it.

Rather "old" topic but addressed what I was looking for. I bought one of the Club Medic regrooving tools from TGW. Think I gave $8(us) for it. I have to say that with the utility knife handle, it was easy to use. "V" grooves only though. My wedges (especially my 56^ and 60^) were in pretty bad shape. It took about 10 minutes with the tool to sharpen the grooves.
With that said, I'm not sure I recommend this particular tool even though it is dirt cheap. I do not think the bit will last long. I'm thinking about buying one from Golfsmith ( http://www.golfsmith.com/products/8287 ) It is a bit more expensive but has "bits" that can be replaced reasonably.
As for effectivness...YES the Club Medic tool provided the desired effect. My chips check up a LOT quicker as do all of my wedges. An immediate and obvious difference after regrooving with it. I just want a "better" tool.
Personally, I like my "old" wedges. I'd have to at a minimum regrip any new wedge that I bought and as long as I can "renew" my old ones, I'll probably continue doing it. I'm just wondering how long it'll be before the face on my 56^ starts looking a concave shaving mirror?

I don't mind the process of regrooving, nor of regripping my clubs. Sort of like working on them. But in reality, the reason is cost. A $30 investment that will allow me to continue using very effective clubs that are already paid for versus paying who-knows-what for a new wedge simply because I didn't want to take maybe 20 minutes to revitalize it?
Possibly most folks do not have that concern. Unfortunately, I do. With a game that is around 83 or 84 most rounds, I probably wouldn't realize the positive influence of a new club as much as would a low handicapper. For me, the regrooving probably does me as much good as getting a new club.
