    Posting scores from alternate shot?

I checked the handicap manual and couldn't find a good answer.

We're playing best-ball (or four-ball in Rules speak) and alternate shot (foursome in Rules speak) this weekend. The procedure for posting the best-ball scores is pretty easy since I'll have a nine hole score for my own ball.

What about the alternate shot? Am I correct in assuming that since I didn't play my own ball for the hole I can't record a score? There's some nebulous wording about scores from team events being acceptable, but it doesn't specifically mention alternate shot.

To make matters more confusing, assuming we close out our TO friends in 5 in the alternate shot nine. We'd then play out the last 4 holes as usual. This would, in theory, give me a score for 13 holes, which could then be posted as an 18 hole score.

    Any ideas?

What I'm going to be doing is count my best ball score on Sat. for one nine and the other nine on Sun. The alternate shot can't be used at all for handicapping.

    See you in Belleville

Email the Rules Committee at the RCGA.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

You can't post a round from an alternate shot event. Play to win. There is nothing else in it for you!

Combining the score you make yourself in the 2 best ball rounds for one 18 is the correct proceedure.

    Definitely playing to win.

This doesn't mean I don't have to post the scores though. I'll shoot the RCGA an email to see what they say about the alternate shot.

I emailed the RCGA, and got an answer within 5 minutes.

The correct procedure is to post the two best ball scores as 9-hole scores.

The 2 nines will be combined and marked with a "C" indicating a combined 18 hole score. The net result is the same as entering it as one 18 hole round, assuming the front and back are played for the 2 nines.

Great response time from the RCGA!
