Le Sorcier - pace of play question
Hi all... played Le Sorcier for the first time yesterday based on the great reviews people have given it here... I loved the layout and pretty much everything about it, aside from the fact that our round took 5 hours and 30 minutes.
Wondering if this is standard for Le Sorcier, or did we just get stuck behind a slow group somewhere up ahead of us?
This isn't meant to be a Le Sorcier-bashing thread in the slightest, I only look to find out if this is to be expected from this course due to a) the distance between holes - though carts are standard and makes the treks between the holes somewhat irrelevant b) course difficulty - though I didn't feel it was terribly penal.
Thanks in advance for your feedback on this issue...

I would say you played a standard pace of play for a holiday monday at any public course in this city. I have played Sorcier many times and have never had a round that slow there....except maybe the forum day but who cares that day!

With tee times 10 minutes apart, even if they are fully booked, there is no real reason for 5h30m rounds... anywhere.

5h30m is really uncalled for unless there are really unusual circumstances like weather, death on the course, etc.
Was it cart paths only? That can actually be a big contributor to slow play.

No, not cart path only - at least we weren't told that it was... but considering how dry it has been, I never even considered that...

Sorcier is never a 'quick' round on the weekends but 5.5 seems excessive. 4.5-5 is the norm for the 8-10 times I have been there.

4.5 for Le Sorcier I'd expect and be comfortable with. 5.5 seemed excessive. Good to know we may have run into an exception.

4.0-4.5 when we played saturday, seems to slow up around the par 3's, i dont understand cause there very straight forward other then elevation change.

Played Le Sorcier Saturday at noon and we finished in 4 hours. 5.5 hours must have been brutal but an exception.
Course is in fantastic shape by the way.

Yeah, in my experience the slow rounds happen early on the weekends. 8-11am are the worst. 12+ are generally pretty good.

I"ve always had speedy rounds.
IF YOU WANT A FAST ROUND GO EARLY: MID DAY = FAIR WEATHER GOLFERS who are there for some exercise etc... Go out early and play.

Did you see any marshalls? Other than in the parking lot?
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

A couple of times yes (saw a marshall)... one of my playing partners told me late today that he heard there was novice golfer out ahead of us playing their first round. Quite the course to do that on!

Doh! Why would anyone do that to someone.
Reminds me of the time one of the vendors I deal with set up a golf afternoon for his clients. Several of whom had never golfed before. At Eagle Creek.
Oh, did I mention it wasn't a scramble? Thankfully I was in the first foursome to tee off and all of us golfed.

3jack--you will definitly have to go back--4-4.5 hours will make a great day there. The place is really nuts on the weekend; everyone wants to play there. You should call in sick someday Give me a call I'll meet you PS. so will everyone slse.

5:30 it happened sometime
but one day at Meadows behind group asked me to play faster even we finished 4:30. I think he might have played alone on weekdays ...
Some time it takes more than 5 hours.

Just came back from playing LeSocier... excellent conditions! I played just under 3 hours with another guy. We passed two groups... very nice conditions, personnel friendly and other golfers as well....
I guess the key is to play weekdays.... on the weekends, they pack the place with 200+ golfers (This according to a guy who works there).

Played there on Sunday at 8:20. We were delayed starting by 15 minutes. The round took 5 hours and we were following a slow 4some.
To top it off the morons behind us kept hitting into us. Finally on the 9th one of my fellow players took a ball from them and hit it into the rough and I told them to stop or I will start hitting their balls back at them.
Beautiful course though!

So the course is in good condition. I have not played there (ever) and am going out with my brother in law, father in law, and uncle in law for fathers day. Is there any tips for playing out there other than the obvious (keep it in the fairway). Anything that should keep a look out for??

The course is in great shape with the exception of some of the tee decks (1st and 10th are really bad). The rough is really tough to play out of (played last sunday so it might have been trimmed since).
Hole 5 & 6 you only need to be 200-210 off the tee to get a really good look at the green. Any longer and you bring some trouble into play.

Thank you for that info, Hopefully with it being fathers day, pace of play wont be that bad, we have a 936 tee off.

If everything is trimmed etc and you go with the idea that it may be a longish round---don't get too frustrated as it is well worth the play. Have fun.

Isn't Father's Day the busiest golf day of the year? I always avoid playing on FD because I imagine there are a lot of 'once a year players' out with their kids.
The pace at Sorcier on the weekends is never quick so just enjoy the scenery (it is great) and be thankful you have a cart if there is any long waits.
