2007 Forum Match Play Tournament: Let's get this started!!!

Let's get this organized... I'll volunteer to gather the names of those interested, organize it, set the dates for each round, gather up some prizes, etc...

My idea for the format for this year is pretty much the same as last year except we'll accept more players as we'll have all summer to find a winner.

So here goes (open to changes):
- Open to the first 32 players to register. A waiting list will be created if more than 64 players wish to participate.
- Registration deadline: May 30th 2007 11:59:59 PM EST - no exceptions
- Single elimination. Once you lose, you're out! No consolation round
- Matches will start on the weekend of June 2nd and end by September 16th.
- 1st round matchups will be decided at random once registration is completed.
- Each round will have 3 weeks to complete - no exceptions. If both players are unable to meet and play within those 2 weeks, they will both forfeit. Obviously, if you know your opponent before hand, you can play earlier.
- Handicaps will be used at 100% of the difference. 2 strokes per hole max. Handicaps should be verified before the match. Let's be honest here and avoid sandbagging.
- Each time you play, we will use your handicap at the beginning of the round...

- Prizes: If you wish to donate a prize or have a better idea for prizes, let me know. Sponsors welcomed!!!

- Winner gets a 2008 Reservation Masters membership and 2 free rounds at Golf-O-Max
- Finalist wins 1 free weekday (Mon-Thurs until Nov 07) Green Fee to Greensemere and 1 free round at Golf-O-Max

- RCGA rules to be applied.
- All matches to be played in the Ottawa area
- Match must be played from teebox where it is set up as 6000 yds min, 67 rating min, 113 slope min - both players can play from a different teebox but the player playing from the back tees will see his course handicap revised to account for this (see Colby's post).
- Please send me details about your match before hand (date, time, course) and the results afterwards.

There are no divisions or brackets.

Yes you can play against a single digit. Handicaps are used. So if you play a 6 handicap and you're say a 20, you get 14 strokes, so 1 stroke on each of the 14 most difficult holes as per the hole's handicap on the scorecard.

I have the same problem as you Lance. I'd sign up in a second if I lived in the Ottawa area, but I think travelling each weekend to play a match within two weeks would start to wear on a person after a while.
However looks like it will be a lot of fun. Good luck to all the participants

Are we making set ranges on slope, rating, length for course selection, or is it up to the 2 people playing the match to agree on a course & tee boxes. Will handicap affect where you tee from, or will each competitor tee from the same box no matter what?

I think you have to play the same tee boxes. I think the caps should be set based on the course and not just a difference in the index.
