    Amberwood golf clubhouse fire

    Well around 6 - 6:30 - 7:00ish this evening we started hearing a LOT of fire/police/ambulance alarms in stittsville. Looking into the village area we could see a lot of smoke pouring out from the horizon. My little brother decided to go explore and apparently the amberwood clubhouse in stittsville has been set ablaze again. This is the second time in two years that the clubhouse has been set on fire.

    I dont have any definite details about how bad it is, but its horrible news. My best wishes are for everything, and more importantly everyone to have gotten out safely.

    Im sure there will be lots of info on the 11:00 CJOH news tonight.

    Mike, by set on fire, are you implying there was arson laster year and probably again this year?

    If so, that sucks hard.

    the clubhouse was leveled 2 autumns ago by alleged arson. I dont know anything about what happened today at all, I am hoping it was accidental this time.

    Just saw the coverage on the AChannel at 11:00 pm. Huge fire, clubhouse completely gutted.
    They said the flames could be seen as far as the Queensway. The high winds were helping fan the flames.

    Heard on the radio this morning that they intened to open the course today regardless of the fire.

    Second time in the four years this has happened...

    Here's the story from the paper this morning...

    Fire Destroys Stittsville Golf Clubhouse
    Josh Pringle Tuesday, April 24, 2007
    One day before the opening of the 2007 golf season, a fire destroyed the main clubhouse at the Amberwood Golf and Country Club in Stittsville.
    Damage is estimated at one-million dollars after the evening blaze gutted the main clubhouse. There is no word on the cause of the fire. The Fire Inspector and the Ottawa Police Arson Unit will start searching the building's remains this morning.
    A volunteer firefighter was taken to hospital for minor smoke-inhalation. The clubhouse is home to a restaurant, members' lounge, pro shop, locker area and club offices. Management insists the golf course will still open for the season today.
    A September 2002 fire at the Amberwood Golf and Country Club caused 1.5 million dollars in damage.

    Thanks to the high winds yesterday we could smell the smoke in Nepean. My wife and I were walking our dog around the paths at the main Nortel building in Nepean last night, and we could smell smoke coming from somewhere, but we thought it was much closer than Stittsville. We got back to the car just before the rain hit and they were talking about it on the radio.
    When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

    News at noon says it was a bbq that started fire, 1 st fire was a wiring issue.
    Lots of people lots there clubs!!
    Fire is so devistating, I feel so bad for everyone involved!

    A lot of people will be replacing there clubs probably via the insurance...I guess Golftown will get a spike in business. I remember after the last fire, one of the Amberwood members were in Chuck Browns purchasing a $2000 set of clubs thru their home insurance policy.

    I think it is perfectly named. Amber is the colour of fire and nothing burns like wood!
    I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.
