I've made a lot of changes over the winter (went from Titleist 962B to Ping I3 blades back to Titleist 962B and found this amazing deal for Golfsmith ProForged). Everything is now perfect in my bag, maybe until next fall or winter.....

    All shafts are regular flex.

Driver: I've narrowed it down to two, a Taylor Made 200 Steel 10.5* (rifle steel) and a Callaway Steelhead Plus 10* (uniflex steel) - leaning towards the Callaway because I need the distance!
3-wood: Callaway Steelhead Plus (uniflex steel)
5 & 7 woods: Triumph Storm (steel) - looking to replace with Steelhead Plus.
3 - PW: Adams GT Performance (steel with graphite tip) - very nice clubs.
SW: 56* King Snake (King Cobra copy) from Straight Ball Golf with rifle steel shaft, won by a friend at the OG Open at Manderley last year!
LW/SW: 60* Alien Ultimate Sand Wedge - you can hack your way out of anywhere with this monster!
Putters - an old MacGregor and a newer TNT, both cut down to 33".
Ball: I never used to care, but lately I've really liked the Nike Tour Distance and the Dunlop LoCo.

    Nothing but Wilson Clubs

    Driver: Wilson Deep Red
    3W: Wilson Invex (steel shaft)
    7W: Wilson Invex (graphite shaft)
3I - PW: Wilson Fat Shaft II
SW: old Wilson 60 degree mallet (and it works perfectly)
    Putter: Wilson Harmonized

I have started using the Titleist NXT balls this season. They're pricey but go like stink.

How are they around the green? I am still searching for the replacement for my beloved Wilson Smart Core straight distance balls. I bought a box of NXT's but haven't tried them yet as I still have a few smart cores left - they won't let me run out, it seems.

My golf bag hasn't really changed much in the past 20 years. I have had the same set of irons since getting them new in 1982. They are Taylor Made Tour Preferred forged blades. 2 iron though sandwedge.
I have a Wilson Gene Sarazen special sand wedge. Driver is and 8.5 degree small headed Taylor Made, I have a Taylor Made Tour Brassie 11 degree 2 wood and a Taylor Made 4 wood. Putter is a Spalding Tour model. All shafts are steel and stiff.

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha Hawkeye 9deg, graphite shaft, stiff
3W: Callaway Big Bertha Hawkeye, graphite shaft, stiff
    2I-PW: Taylor Made LCG Burner,
AW (Gap wedge): Taylor Made LCG Burner
SW: King Cobra Trusty Rusty 55deg
Putter: Odyssey Dual Force 330 (may switch to White Hot 2 Ball)
Ball: Titleist Pro V1 392, Maxfli Noodle or Stratas

Personnally, I hit a 2 iron better off the tee than a 5 wood and I have a gap wedge in my bag because there's a 15 deg difference between my PW and my SW. That's about a 30 yds difference!

Driver: Adams prototype driver, all it has on it is a Patent Pending #. Bought at Grant Fuhrs(former NHL hockey goalie) garage sale last year. It was basically brand new. Bought it for 20 bucks!!. It has an extra stiff Adams shaft on it, which I may change in the future.

Woods: Cobra Baffler 20* driving iron and an Adams Tight Lies 16* (bought these from the same garage sale for $10 for both!!!)

Irons: 2-PW Ping Eye 2 green dots (free from uncle)

    Wedge: Wilson Harmonized SW BeCu

Putter: SeeMore putter ($10 from the same garage sale)

I'm just learning how to play this great game, but the equipment I have now (although old and inexpensive), seems to do the trick until I get better.

    question

Natgolfer. I always enjoy reading your posts but I do have a couple questions.
1)Why the stiff flex in your driver and not in your fairway woods?
    2)Why don't you have a 3 iron?(if you can hit a 2 wood)
3)Are your 3 pitching wedges the equivalent of a regular PW a GW and a LW?

    What's in the bag

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead III 10 degree stock regular Graphite Shaft

Fairway Woods: Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead III 3 and 7 Woods Uniflex steel (R) shaft

3-PW: Knockoff BB irons Trutemper Xlite Shaft 1" longer 3 degree up in lie angle

Wedges: Cleveland 588 51 Degree gap wedge and 56 Degree Sand Wedge.

    Putter: Cobra Bobby Grace Signature

Wish list: real BB irons, or maybe Hogan Edge CFTs, Reshafting the woods in matched graphite shafts ...

I just changed the fairway woods (dropping the five wood). It will take a few rounds to see if I miss it, I used to carry a 60 degree lob wedge too but dropped it and don't miss it (too many miss hits).

    Hi Andre,

    1) I have made my driver 48" long, partly because my right hand palm grip for my single axis swing, is two inches lower than it would be if I had a conventional Vardon grip. The effective length of my driver then is 46". The extra length would normally make the club play more flexible, so I used the "S" instead. I have put an "R" in the 2W and an "S" in the 5 wood, however, as you and I can match clubs by deflection on our NF2's, I used an "R" and an "S" to match them appropriately. With the SK Fiber PE shafts, there is very little difference in deflection(stiffness) between the two, and both of these clubs are now giving me about 15 yards more than my comparably lofted Orlimar FW woods and I never sky any shots because of the Steelhead Plus's deeper face.

    2) Because I now play with 4 wedges, something had to go and it's the 3 iron. If I need the 3 iron distance I just go down the shaft on the 5W. I am actually more accurate with that shot than if I were to use the 3I.
The main reason I did well during the first round of the Alexander of Tunis was because of this particular shot, the 5W that is, allowing to reach all of the long par fours at Rivermead. The 3 iron from their tight fairways lies, would probably have reduced my chances of getting home. However, this shot did not work well the second day, when I saw you on 18, and helped me earn an 81!!!!! :reallymad

    3) The three pitching wedges, for obvious reasons, all feel exactly the same when I swing and I have bent them to give me the three lengths that I want with them when I take a full swing, namely, 85 Yards, 100 yards, and 115 yards. For most other lob type shots, I use the Hogan wedge.

There is a logic to my madness, however, just because it is logical, does not mean that it's right.

Driver: TM 540 MAS Stiff 9.5*
3 wood: Adams GT graffaloy stiff 15*
5 wood: Cobra SS Aldila stiff
    3-PW: Titleist DCI 762
56*: Snake eyes oil can finish, precision rifle shaft
60*: Snake eyes oil can finish, precision rifle shaft
    Putter: Rossie II 34''

Sometimes use a 52* Snake Eyes gap wedge (DG S300), but will prob take the 56* out too and use a 54* Cleveland 588 gunmetal.
