    Front Knee Flexed Inward?

I saw a tip on the Golf Channel regarding the proper "action" of the front (left for righties) knee. I've since discovered that I don't do what is suggested... in fact I might be doing the opposite, but I wanted to gather thoughts as to the importance of the following:

The suggestion is that it is vitally important during the backswing to flex the front knee inwards toward the rear knee..aka Nicklaus style. I saw this some time ago, so I've forgotten the reasons why it's so important. However, if I focus on flexing that knee towards the rear knee, I notice a) I actually do a good weight transfer (one of my classic faults), and b) I notice when I'm "properly" flexed that my weight on the rear foot is significantly more positioned on the instep.

If I recall, I think the flexed inward knee, when complete at the top, initiates the start of the downswing by releasing the front knee towards the target, while thrusting off the rear foot.

I've noticed last year, and again this year, on the backswing I've been actually lifting my front foot, and rotating my front foot more forward.

    Appreciate any ideas/comments.

.......Keep your legs as quiet as possible during the backswing. Your left knee will be pulled a little to the right because of your hip rotating when the shoulders and upper body rotate to get your back to the target, this is what pulls your hips and then left knee. If you move your left knee to the right before it's pulled to the right by the rotating hips you will have that much further to move your knee laterally to get to your neutral position (like it was at address) from there the hips just keep rotating and clearing your left side for your arms to follow. Just remember, backswing the upper body pulls on the lower body and on the downswing the lower body pulls on the upper body. O.K. it's overly simple but hey I'm at work and somewhat limited in time

Ironmaster is right on. During the last four weeks I have given the same advice to four students with amazing results. They all shortened their backswings and quieted the legs. They go hand in hand. The shoulder turn relative to the hip turns actually increased. Leads to better balance and rhythm. They all added distance and control. One fellow has gone from 130 yard 6 irons to 180+ yards with a much tighter dispersal pattern.
Aim at nothing and you will hit it every time.

Freddie Couples is a perfect example of this. Watch his backswing. The man could swing just as effectively in quicksand. Sooooo smoooooth. I love that swing.
