Isn't wear dependant on use vs. time? How many rounds did you get in last year? Hopefully, you weren't the guy who holds the world record for most rounds in a year...and expect a set of irons to last through it all.

As a hacker, I get a lot of swings, but not many rounds.

no that would be GolfBum on this forum

but grooves to wear down over time. it all depends on the shot. if you play alot of golf and you are consistently hitting the ball in the same place on the club head then it would not surprise me if this is the case. after all you have to be good enough to play CG1's to begin with right

Also hitting range balls that often have sand on them will strip the finish off the face pretty quickly. If the grooves are in good shape still, the finish wearing off isn't a big deal.

finish wearing off happens... its chrome. when the finish wears off it rusts. like a 50s car bumper. as for the grooves wearing down. Mike Weir told me he replaces his wedges ever 3 months cuz he just wears the grooves out

I've heard this too, plus some guys rarely clean the heads after each shot,
and then put them away dirty. Now the loss of chrome from hitting sandy range
balls results in rust formation, around the sweet spot the size of a silver dollar.
    Kind regards, Harry
