Moved from London, ON
***I posted a similar question last year and couldn't find it for the life of me, so I re-posted this message. I just managed to find last year's responses. I'm leaving this post up here just in case anyone wants to throw in their two cents. Last year's posts were very helpful though. Thanks.***
Hi everyone,
I just moved from London, ON to east of Ottawa (around Embrun). We played at Forest City National and FireRock (if that means anything to anyone) a lot in London and are looking for a similar course around here. Does anyone have any suggestions on higher end public courses around this end of town?
On a related note, given that I'm new to the area and am not likely to buy a membership until I've tried a few courses out, are there any good player cards or anything like that in the region?
Thanks.

you've come to the right place!
as for higher end public courses, there are the marshes, stonebridge and Loch March. Eagle Creek was just bought by CL but is open to the public for this upcoming year. I highly recommend any of those. Most of those are in the West though. As for the East End, Outaouias is good. Check out the map under featured courses. Anderson Links opens this spring to the public (Anderson and the 417). As for player cards, this site has one called Reservation Masters.I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I live about 10 min from Embrun. A half decent course not far from you is Cloverdale Links near Winchester. Decent rates for a pretty nice course. Casselview in Casselman is alright too. I haven't been there in quite a few years but friends of mine have played there recently and say it is pretty good. Emerald Links between Hwy 31 and Manotick is a good course. Not cheap but certainly not expensive and has 36 holes I believe. A new one that just opened late last year is Andeson links about a 15 minute drive from Embrun on Anderson rd just off Hwy 417. And finally there is Grayhawk in Carlsbad springs. I hear it is pretty good but I also hear it's expensive. Too rich for me as I prefer quantity over quality. I play a little course in Williamsburg called Cedar Glen. Not in the same league as any of these but it is very reasonable and the staff and service is the best I've ever seen considering what you pay to play there. The owner is also fantastic! Cloverdale links has a pretty good driving range too. Any more questions?

I've played firerock. It is really fun. If you like firerock, you'll like Stonebridge (in Barrhaven). It's a little tighter though.

that's the one great thing about living here. Lots of good courses within a 40 min drive or less at half the cost of Toronto.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Grew up around the "center of the universe" and I can honestly say that I will NEVER move back there. Love the courses here, far cheaper and the people are MUCH nicer than they are in southern ontario...in general.
Honestly can't see how people can pay 150 bucks for a round of golf and not think anything of it.

There are lots of courses in MB for $150 US +. There's a bit of a difference playing a few rounds on holiday for that price and playing them every week of the summer....
We're playing 5 rounds for $350 US, or about $420 CAD. $84 a round for some amazing courses.I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

When I'm on holidays I don't mind spending the money, but as Jeffc says, I'd have a problem paying that kind of money day in day out....To be honest, the courses are not any better there than they are here. A few gems but by and large the same quality as here.
Supply and demand I guess. Let them pay it there and leave our courses to us....
