    15* 3wood or Hybrid?

    Hi guys/gals

I need to think about adding a new 3wood and/or hybrid(s) to the bag. Currently I'm hitting a 9* Cally FT-3 Fusion driver and 13* strong 3wood (Cally too) and I was wanting to upgrade to a 15* 3wood as I have some problem with the current one off the deck.

Situationally, what would be a better investment, a 15* 3wood or 15* hybrid? If I begin to use the new 3wood off of the tee, would that provide a better workability than the same lofted hybrid?

I'm planning on picking up a 19/20* hybrid as well to replace a 3iron, but for the 2ndary weapon, I'm just curious as to what you all think for the 3wood/hybrid dilemma?

Thanks for any response that follows,

    Scott

try the Adams Ovation tight lighs 3 wood... its got the shaft length of a 3 wood but the head size more of a hybrid.. .. you'll find that a 15* 3 wood will have more distance due to the longer shaft.... a 3 hybrid will be a little shorter distance wise..IMO anyway

If you have a repeatable swing, you will hit the 15* 3 wd farther than the 15* hyrbrid. Generally I find that 15* hybrids play more like a 4-5 wd. The shorter shafts makes for better control but a little less club speed so shorter distance.

And as for going 19-20* to replace your 3 iron, I think you should consider getting something in the 22*-24* to replace your 3 iron. 3 irons today are generally in the 21-23* range, so if you were to swap it out for a 19-20* hybrid you would end up with a big yardage gap. And something to consider, they generally make hybrids a little longer than the corresponding iron they are supposed to replace, hence why I said look in the 22-24* range. Hope this helps.

If I'm reading you right as far as the 3iron replacement, even if the 4 iron in the set will be 24*, you'd suggest about the same for the hybrid because of the longer shaft corresponding to about a 3iron distance?

My biggest problem is the 190-210 range. I don't smoke irons and my 4iron's limit is about 190 (in the set I have now).

    Thanks again,

    Scott
