Yes, Golf is Not a Game of Perfect is #1 for me as well.

Just finishing Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons" which is excellent.

For Coffee table books, I would say John Gordon's "Great Golf Courses of Canada" and his just released this past Fall "Great New Golf Courses of Canada". Terrific photos and descriptions in both.

Having read all the Rotella stuff and probably two dozen more on the mental game, all of which sounded good but changed nothing, this ebook allowed me to see through the smoke and mirrors. Similar to finally learning that a good golf swing is not as complicated as most instruction has lead us to believe, Carey's idea taught me what to think when I play, and it is soooooo simple, and sooooo good. However, it is not mainstream and too simple to be accepted.

What I think I learned from Mumford: you can not hit the ball well with your conscious mind.

This seems to ring true, as "The Inner Game of Golf" has a similar message.

I have read so many - it's hard to pick just one. The ones I credit with getting me on the right track are:

1. George Knudson - The Natural Golf Swing (1988). Don't be put off by the title - it's much more than this.

2. Joseph Parent - Zen Golf (2002). Excellent mental preparation.

3. Carl Lohren / Larry Denis - One Move to Better Golf (1975). Simple and excellent.

4. Anything by Harvey Penick. His stories are just the right length for bathroom reading.

Thanks Chief for a great thread. I am going to start reading some of these books for sure. I am currently reading Dave Pelz's Short game Bible. Good read! I am sure it will help me with my short game. I always was frustrated by missing a green with a long iron or wood. Pelz basically says thats alright, with the right wedge game you should be able to get up and down with ease from any yardage inside 100 yards with the right practice and tools.
Looking forward to reading some other great titles.

Par 3 Sixth Hole, 180 yards called "Ciffhanger".

I'm surprised no one mentioned this book yet. Ray Floyd has a funny looking swing, but his career demonstrates that he knows how to score.

And after all, that's what golf is all about. I know that for too many years, I was playing "golf swing", rather than "golf".

With exception of the chapters on yoga and breathing exercises a really good book on mental preparation and execution of golf shots.

The best part... Page 45-46. "Take Dead Aim"
Made a big difference in my game. That one swing thought really got me to follow through at my target.

I just finished "The Pro" by Butch Harmon. It's about his dad Claude Harmon and is a very interesting read. It includes lots of little "pearls" about golf and life in general and has quite a few interesting stories about Claude's experiences with the PGA. I'd recommend it.

I am not too big on books abour fundementals... So another fave is "Bud, Swear, and Tees" The story of Rich Beem... Its a good read.
