Dan,
True enough. The weather is changing everywhere. Better for the golfer!
The air will be cleaner with 1MM VS 4.5 MM population.
Truth be told, PEI & I are having an Ottawa vs Toronto weather P- match.
Well I'm sure many people would consider both cities to have less then favourable climates.
I just hope this summer isn't as wet as the last one we had.

About Ottawa Weather
The climate and weather in Ottawa goes from one extreme to the other, with extremely warm and humid summers and cold, snowy winters. During the winter it snows a lot, and snow is not uncommon both in spring and autumn. Temperatures well below freezing are experienced in winter, and the bitter Ottawa weather is punctuated by the extremely cold wind chill. The best part of the cold Ottawa weather in the winter is the largest outdoor skating rink, the Rideau Canal is able to be open for months at a time!
Summer brings sunshine and pleasant days, with high humidity on many occasions, although highs seldom exceed 100°F (38°C), they can when you combine the humidity that comes from Ottawa being in a valley. Rain can be expected any time of year in Ottawa, but late summer, early fall tends to be the wettest seasons. A feature of Ottawa Weather is the possibility of late autumn heat waves, enjoyed as 'Indian summers', which frequently occur.Membership- GlenCairn Golf Club

I grew up in the TO area and have lived in Ottawa for 14 years. Ottawa is definitely colder in the winter. There is no spring in Ottawa. I find in Ottawa it takes a couple of extra weeks to get going in the spring and we get a week or so less in the fall (typically). One odd weather thing I found is that Ottawa is just far enough east to get the fringe of an occasional storm going up the east coast where we get snotty east winds - almost never get that in Toronto area.
Pollution is definitely worse in the whole south western Ontario region compared to here. However, the last few summers some the of the smog has crept into this area. My wife has asthma and refuses to move back to the TO region mainly because of air quality.
Overall the weather in the TO region is definitely better, except for the smog.I don't have an ulcer - I am just a carrier.

Well, Victoria is kinda hilly, no snow removal equipment and NOBODY has a clue how to drive in it. So yah, I too found it pretty silly to be sure.

PEI, not hurting my feelings I lived in Ottawa most of my life & I'm not a BIG fan of Toronto.
Again, I wouldn't trade the weather. I will make sure I let you know how the golf is April 10th out here, while they still haven't een confirmed an open date for Greyhawk by that time!
Hee, hee........ watch out for the ICE storms.Membership- GlenCairn Golf Club

Greyhawk is not the benchmark for course openings here. They are among the last to open in late April.

Same here. Clublink is a couple of weeks later all the way around I guess.
Except Rolling Hills. Last year Rolling Hills was open Mid March, and closed I think we played it 2 days before Christmas.

Nope, it certainly isn't built for snow. Very hilly, as you said, the roads are also narrower (I find), which leaves less margin for error. The double decker busses have a heck of time. There's absolutely zero snow removal equipment. And everyone thinks that the best way to get moving when there's little tractions is to FLOOR the gas and make a really dumb face when you don't go anywhere..then repeat the process until someone tells you to just press the gas lightly until you feel the tires grab, and slowly excelerate. Then, inevitably, they don't believe you, and try slamming on the gas at least three more times, at which point you walk on laughing. Then there are the people who put chains on their tires. Yep, just tie on some chains and tear up the roads. I saw a truck driving down the road in first year throwing up sparks and was so confused. Somebody explained to me that there were chains on the tires...i was still confused.

Winter AWOL as 9.2C day follows warmest December on record books
Jan 02, 2007 04:30 AM
Moira Welsh
STAFF REPORTER
If this weather keeps up, it won't be long before Toronto is the new Florida.
For now, it's the new Vancouver.
Toronto just emerged from the warmest December on record, a month characterized by balmy days, rain showers and the lowest snowfall this city has ever seen.
Even yesterday's high of 9.2C broke a record for the warmest New Year's Day – albeit by 0.1C – giving Toronto a West Coast winter while Vancouver has been struggling with uncharacteristic cold and snow.
"We can honestly say that winter hasn't really come to the GTA and southern Ontario," said David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada.

HAHA...Toronto is the new Vancouver. That statement is the essence of why so many people dislike Toronto. It's the new Vancouver...just without the clean air, picturesuqe mountains, gorgeous ocean vistas, and well,, all the things that make Vancouver one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Well, I didn't say conditions were great, but the point is we are only a few hours away and the climate is not that different. Both have minor pluses and minuses that even out what little differences there are. It's all good and it was an interesting debate
