Ramping up for 2007 - looking for advice

I plan to do a more golfing in 2007.

For the last ten years I've played 2-5 times per year, usually business tournaments and out of town with friends.

Children have grown up and I'm finding more free time to do other activities.
Do not have a regular four some.

Live in Almonte, work in Ottawa - looking to golf in central to west of Ottawa.

I'm looking to play week night's and week day afternoons, maybe men's nights.

Googled 'golf in Ottawa' and found executuve golf web site and the 'Slammer Tour'. Any comments? I note some courses are not local to me and others in my area are not included in the list.

Additional advice on how to get started in the Ottawa area would be great!

I joined the Slammer Tour in 2004 and became addicted in 2005 when I played in 40 events. Last year I played in 44 - and would have been there more had I not had to interrupt my golf season to get married in late June.

The Slammer Tour is a ladder-style match play golf league. You earn your position (or ranking) based on who you have beaten. I'm ranked somewhere in the mid-20's right now and if you come out and beat me in the first event, you'll take my spot and knock me down one.

There are golfers of all skill levels - a handful of those who can shoot in the mid to high 70's, a whole bunch who hover in the low to mid-80's, a good group in the high 80's or 90's, and a number of 100+ golfers. There will always be players on hand who will be available to play at a certain skill level.

Events are usually on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, on weekend mornings and/or afternoons and on holidays as well.

It's lots of fun and I regret having waited a couple years to check it out after a friend of mine told me about it. It's a good bunch of guys.

Just watch out for Bulldog (mmason) on the Slammer Tour. He'll eat your lunch.

    Hmmm... that only happened once.

Might have to bring you a Rocky Patel the next time we play to make up for it!!
