When is the cut off date to enter, I need to get a few rounds in to actually establish a handicap, I dont think they had the ovga computer system at my old course but now I know Metcalfe has it, I can get'er down to an 5 or 6.

What do you need to enter this tourny? If i'm not a member anywhere how do i get an established cap that they will accept?

You need an 8 handicap and a pro to vouch for you I believe, I dont know all the rules and regs but keep an eye on the thr4ead someone will explain it.

The entry form usually states that you need a valid RCGA handicap factor of 8 or less to submit an entry. They then pick the field from the lowest entries.
However, as has been discussed hotly on this board, there often people who enter without valid RCGA handicaps.
I am not sure if they are going to be changing it this year.

Unfortunate are my words. As the handicap chairman for the other tour, I just wanted an explanation as to why the golfer had stated to the Citizen tourney that he was a 7 handicap when he was claiming an 11 on our tour. I never did receive an answer to that, but he did quit the tour. We had several others last year who were penalized for handicap infractions, and that is what we had to do to preserve the integrity of the tour. I kept my personal feelings out of it completely, I also kept my comments about that tour to that tour's forum.
I don't think it's worth rehashing as people obviously still have strong feelings towards this. If you want to discuss it with me further, please PM me.Last edited by Colby; 02-26-2007 at 04:10 PM. Reason: Removed link to old post.

I’m planning on playing it this season depending on the tournament dates. I’m out of town for a couple of weeks here and there this summer so I don’t want to apply if I have date conflicts.
I will start with the spring Open Q in May at the Marshes and see where that takes me…

What days are the rounds normally played on? Weekends or during the week?

OK, then I'll start. Don't take this personally Reid.
Assuming the entry criteria is a valid RCGA handicap, then a pro signing should not be sufficient. Why?
Well, I go the bother and expense (yes expense because it costs money) of maintaining a valid RCGA handicap through a public player program. My scores are all posted and there for everyone to see. If my hdcp isn't good enough to get in, I don't get in. I'm cool with that.
But the requirements are very specific. Valid RCGA handicap. You either have one or you don't. I don't care if somebody is good enough to play the point is that there is a well defined criteria.
IHMO if there are pros attesting to handicaps they should be disciplined.

I think the last round will be played at Rideau View around the 31. I also believe the first day is the 3rd this year.

I keep mine through the GAO. I believe Golf Quebec also has one.
EDIT: Link to the PP program.

You leaving the board Reid, or just this thread?

Reid has decided to no longer frequent the forum. I believe it would be best if we not put his decision under the microscope and just let it be.

It will get you into pretty much any sanctioned tournament, subject to other qualification criteria.
I haven't checked the schedule this year but there is a specific Public Player's tournament, i.e. restricted to members of the PP program.
Other than that you can use your handicap to get in to the Canadian Open, US Open, etc. since it is a valid RCGA handicap.
