I'm not bothered either way. "winter" out here is like spring anyway. But if I was a betting man, I'd say that we're due for an early spring after the wacky weather we've been getting. I can already smell the blooms as I walk to class in the morning. Did I mention that Victoria is awesome? No? Well, Victoria is awesome.

I called it right. I also stuck my head out the window this morning and saw no shadow. Then again it was still dark outside when I did that Courses in SW Ontario will open before the end of March. My prediction would be around March 27.

There are groundhog day decorations?

What a ridiculous tradition... so you have one cloudy day in early Feb. and it is supposed to mean that winter will end early? But if it is sunny on that day winter is going to stick around. How accurate have the predictions been?

A bunch of people standing around a groundhog hole as a way to predict the weather. .... Can you imagine how that would look to someone from another planet looking down on us?

It would look like what it is. A bunch of cold people desperately seeking an end to the foul conditions they annually endure.
AKA ... An excuse to party in the dead of winter in a few select rural communities.

Groundhog Day has been a tradition for years. Some may think it is stupid, others think it is an accurate way to predict the next 6 weeks of weather. Either way it is a fun day in Wiarton.

As for people from another planet looking down on us. We likely look pretty stupid already! Wars, pollution and the list goes on and on. Do you believe there are people on other planets? If so then why can people not believe the Groundhog makes the right call?

We should lobby the Government to make Groundhog Day a National Holiday. We need one right about now!

Yes it is true, I do not need anymore holidays. Ok, I could use some between now and May 1.

But my intentions were meant solely for other Canadians!
