BOSE The Acoustimass® 16 Series II

    Hi All,
I am looking at redoing my theatre room and want to replace my tower speakers ( which are pure muscle I must say ) for something smaller and less intrusive. I was looking at BOSE and was curious as to what people thought? Any opinions/advice/thoughts/ideas are welcome.

Currently I have 2 tower speakers by Technics, which have a 12, a 10 and a 4 in them, a JBL 10" powered Sub, JBL centre channel & JBL rears.

I need to go smaller, mainly for the fronts but if I go with the BOSE i can probably replace everything right?

Any audiophiles out there with advice?

I had the Bose Acoustimass system but was not happy with it. I replaced mine with Paradigm Cinema Series 110s with a PDR 12 for sub and 70s for my rears. All speakers are wall hung which is a nice clean look (all wires are hidden inside the wall).

Like you, I needed something smaller and that I could hang off the wall so that the kids don't destroy them. I am very happy with the purchase.

    Audiotronic is the local dealer.

    Bose sucks.
Paradigms are the best value for money.

Based on what? Sound quality? Size? Manufacturing quality & Warranty? Value? Price?

Bose are generally overpriced for what you get. Not that they are the worst speakers you can buy, but for what you pay, you can do a lot better. As for Paradigm, great speakers, though they have gotten a little pricey in the past few years.

So what do people recommend for good quality speakers. I need something fairly small, not towers for the front, and for a good price as having 2 small kids is expensive as many of you know!

Paradigm, Energy, PSB are all good brands. How small is small? I've got some Mini-Monitors for sale on this board. They're bookshelf speakers. Do you need really small?

We have an awesome Denon 5.1 speaker system. Excellent sound, lots of power capacity and very small speakers. $1500 about 5 years ago.

Dunno what the current Denon models are like but we have been really happy with this system.
Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

I have some JBL bookshelf spearkers I could use for the front if I had to and I could by rears, but I don't know if small bookshelfs will give me enough Bang as I like stuff loud!

As long as they are good bookshelves (and you have a good powered sub) they should do fine.
I use my Titans as fronts and they sound fantastic, and are only 80 watts RMS.

Guess I'll have to start shopping then. I currently have 5.1 but my receiver supports 6.1 so I wanna get that set-up too. Thanks for all the advice guys looks like I'll stay away from Bose if possible.

I'm gonna have to go with Paradigm here. I've got a 5.1 Paradigm setup and it's great.
