Any feedback from forum members?..which ones have you played?

I have played the following:
- Tigers Eye (#3) Loved it..
- Rivers Edges (38) Awsome.. prob. my fav. down there..
- Oyster Bay (#19) Also great track
- Myrtle Beach National Kings North (#20) Didn't care for it at all..
- Carolina National (#45) Pretty solid..

Thats it for me.

I've played:

Tiger's Eye - awesome
Bald Head Island - just ok course, but nice trip to get there
Thistle - didn't love it - staff were indifferent
Sea Trail Jones - nice track
Sea Trail Maples - decent track
Long Bay - should be ranked higher - very hard
Panther's Run - ok
Pearl East - really liked this course
Carolina National - lots of bunkers - really dry when we played it - would like to play again
Lion's Paw - good track and play this in the am and Tigers Eye in the PM
Sea Trail Byrd - didn't care for it

I have played:

4. Caledonia G. & Fish Club - Great old course. Make sure you start on #1 and not #10 as #9 is a short par 3
7. Heritage Club - Nastiest sloping greens I have ever seen. A beautiful course.
8. Rivers Edge G.C. - Great marsh holes
9. True Blue G. Plantation - Beautiful conditioning, a great course to play.
11. TPC of Myrtle Beach - Service was amazing. Course was strong with a very good par 5 finishing hole.
16. Glen Dornoch - Some great marsh holes. Another solid track.
17. Pawleys Plantation - Except for the wierd par 3's along the marsh, a great Nicklaus track.
19. Oyster Bay G. Links - Some excellent holes here, including some short par 4s that are all risk reward!
20. Myrtle Beach National (Kings North) - Best of the three MBN courses, I enjoyed playing it.
27. Legends Resorts (Moorland) - Typical nasty Dye course. I would play it again though.
29. Prestwick C.C. - I enjoyed this course, there are some beautiful holes.
31. The Long Bay Club - One of my favourites, I agree it should be higher in the list. Greens are nasty!
34. River Club - I was unimpressed by this course, but was expecting a lot. They were aerating the greens when we were playing, so that may have taken some pleasure out of it.
35. Willbrook Plantation - This should be ranked higher also. Some great holes and the greens are excellent!
38. St. James Plantation (Members) - The conditioning here was amazing with some great holes.
43. The Pearl G. Links (East) - This is a great track with some very pretty holes.
45. Carolina Nat'l. (Ibis/Heron/Egret) - Outstanding course that would be much more expensive if it was closer to Myrtle Beach. Make sure you play the Heron nine.
48. Litchfield C.C. - An older track. Very nice with tiny greens.

Not bad for only 4 trips there...

Havent been there in 6 years to many stories about nothing but horseplay cant go with out wife.Wildwing avocet,hummingbird,falcon,woodstork Avocet being the best,all 3 courses at the legends great pratice area Moorland aPete design #1,the Heritage,Marsh harbour now closed Osterbay 3 great courses.Both Pearl east and west great tracks not a big surcharge the Dunes ,Tidewater,big surcharges, Heather Glen Glen Dornach myrtlebeach national all 3 North overated,Riverclub,WillBrook platation Lithfield,ocean Harbour now closed PineLakes great seafood chowder, Arcaiden something Belletair now closed lions paw sandpiper the Witch hated it,plus a bunch of cheapones like eastport carolina shores seagull,indigo creek Island green bay tree all 4 of them these are alright for 1st day but worth paying surcharge for better ones.Favorite restaurant Carolina Roadhouse favorite strip joint nothing but horseplay favorite golf store Martins,went for 6years in a row for 10 games each time stayed at Breakers, Ocean dunes and the carribean always in the condo rooms miss it very much

You guys really know how to kick a brother while he's down Here I sit with snow up my arse, and that's not easy since I'm indoors. Going down to 11 degree F tonight, they closed my golf dome early all month so I can only go on weekends before work (Who plays lacrosse anyway ) And what do I have to read about??? Great golf courses to play I'd go look for a bridge but I'm snowed in

3. Ocean Ridge Plantation - Tiger's Eye - 2005, 2006, and will play 2007 - The Best - hands down
29. Prestwick - 2006 - unremarkable and over-rated, bad marshall experience
43. The Pearl G. Links E. - 2005 - enjoyed it even in the wind/rain, going back 2007
45. Carolina National - 2005 - rated "no replay" by the group

This will be our third year but we have not played many in the top 50. Think for 2008 we'll get EDS Golf to book us into some of these (Top 50) and see how the prices compare.

There are several discounted golf packages that include the Top 50 courses which can be very interesting.

What I have played (from this list):
Barefoot Dye: Nice enough, but too much Dye gone awry with the mounds and crap. Fazio is the best of the Barefoot courses, IMO.
Tidewater: Very nice, holes along water are awesome.
Pawleys: Played it years ago, liked it a lot.
Oyster Bay: Still one of my favourites, especially now that they replaced the Bermuda greens.
Not on the list but should be: Crowe Creek.

Thanks for the link. I'm surprised at some of the properties they rate so low, a few I had considered in the past. As for the courses, I've only played one, Azelea Sands. I thought they were a little harsh but it is on the low end of our list too. Our group rated it as a no replay in 2005. Only negative I can recall now is how po'd the photo gal got when we would not buy her pics .

They are quite picky. The good thing about them is they are fairly up to date and you can find out if something odd has happened, e.g., if a course loses their greens for some reason. I typically go down every March for a couple of weeks (both my folks and in-laws winter down there) and tend to hit the "B" courses more.
