Dan's Custom Golf Shop
Hi guys, I was lead to this forum by another Dan.
Looks like I will enjoy my time here.
I will post some of my clubmaking info
(if this is not allowed then please remove it) - I've had problems at a different site for doing this but from what info I have read here it looks like it will be OK - I hope
I've studied lots about this game
Here it goes
Clubmaking Accreditations
Certified by The Ralph Maltby Clubmaking Academy in:
2001 - Professional Assembly & Repair
2003 - Professional Clubfitting
2004 - I was invited to attend Ralph Maltby's 'Masters Program' in Ohio becoming only the 3rd person in Canada to obtain this status. This is the most elite clubmaking program there is and is only available to individuals who have proven their ability is of the highest regard.
2004 - Wrote the Golf Clubmakers Association (GCA) Exam earning both the Professional & Advanced Certifications - the highest available levels for Clubbuilders.
2005 - Trademark owner of 'True Length Technology™' A fitting system that puts every club in the same hand position based on the proper length and lie angle for the individual. Please note that the clubs do vary in length, but not to the traditional 1/2 inch incrument used throughout the industry. I devoted 3 years of research knowing there had to be a better fit than what is currently available. I always felt my long irons were too long and my short irons too short. Please review my True Length Technology™ section to help you understand what this system will do for you and your game.
2005 - Became a Certified Rifle Center for Frequency Matching Royal Precision Rifle shafts. Rifle Shafts are now part of the True Temper Family of Golf Safts.
Metrology Accreditations- Currently employed as a Metrologist for General Motors in the Canadian Regional Engineering Centre in Oshawa. As a Precision Inspector I currently operate CAD systems, Coordinate Measuring Machines and high level inspection tools on a daily basis. All part of holding the J.D. Powers 'Best In Class' which has been awarded to General Motors on many occations. I am proud to be a General Motors employee and their complete line of Quality Vehicles.
- Past Chairman of the 'Association for Coordinate Metrology Canada' (ACMC).www.acmc-canada.ca This is a group of individuals devoted to correct metrology practices at the highest level. Colleagues include University Professors, Scientist's from the National Research Council and dimensional experts from around the world.
- Graduate of Durham College (1980) from the 3 year Mechanical Technology Program.
- High accuracy measurements, calculations and precision metrology are all daily practices.

Welcome to the forum! Hampton, huh? I spent some early years in Bowmanville where our chief little league soccer rivals were Hampton, Tyrone and Orono.

Welcome Dan. This place might be a ZOO, but it is a far better ZOO than the last one you resided in, if you know what I mean!
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

This is great. We must have one of the best, if not "the best" golf forums in the world!
With your experience we have just made it better. Welcome.
Say do you know if we will be having an early spring? Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

Dan. The following might interest you:
There is one golf course here and 2 more within 30 miles. I
started up at this location in 95 with nothing but a Workmate and a couple
of dozen grips. For the first 2 years I spent all the profits buying
equipment and stock. Three years later the local paper called and wanted to
run a story about Clubmaking. The article ran a full page with some pictures
and interview. The reporter spent a half day with me in the shop and I was
going through a fitting session with a customer. Once that paper hit the
stand I had over 100 calls. From that it was word of mouth. I did some
advertising but wasn't worth it. I also got lucky as the Super Concordes hit
the market about the same time and I sold over 200 that summer. There is not
another clubmaker within 50 miles except for a couple of cut and gluers. I
am semi retired as I was in the Canadian Air force for 30 years so the
clubmaking profits are a bonus. Word of mouth keeps the shop open.
It is rewarding to go to the local course and see so many golf bags
with clubs I built in them. The local Pro doesn't talk to me anymore except
when he can't do a repair himself and gets me to do it. He is leaving next
year and I have been approached by the committee to take over the repairs
for the course.

Chief, great story - where was this guy located?
I too, have had 2 stories ran.
1 - When I got my Masters Certificate - for weeks got lots of calls and business.
2 - When I did my formal introduction of True Length Technology
Both certainly helped generate interest.
I also do the Oshawa Golf Show - this year will be at the new GM Center in downtown Oshawa. I do a presentation each day on TLT and Clubfitting benefits.
This year it is Feb. 23 - 25.
Hope some of you guys can come buy and say hi.Thanks, Dan
