Excellent trade imho. Cap hit is half his salary (as we are helfway through the season) and he is a UFA next year so unless he wins the conn smythe or something we can let him leave without having to offer him a new contract or trade.

As for Alfie getting traded, dream on, that guy IS the Ottawa Senators, it's not all about numbers (which he has) it's all the other stuff he does. He's one of the best PK guys in the NHL right now, and has carried the Sens many times.

if alfie IS the senators, then alfie IS a big reason why they fail miserably come playoff time, n'est pas? You can't just look at the things he does well and ignore the things he doesn't do, or hasn't been able to overcome.

I don't think Alfie is the reason they "fail miserably" in the playoffs, it's mostly goaltending and Alfie trying to do too much as many of the other players go missing. I hated that Pominville shortie as much as the next Ottawa fan but the series was dead and buried by then.

well, it had nothing to do with goaltending. They couldn't score. Emery played bad in the first game, deefinitely, but from then on, he was the only reason they had a chance. Their problem was their big players were invisible. Alfie is their biggest player, their captain, and supposedly, their leader. He has to be able to step up, and I've yet to see that from him.

I guess we can agree to disagree then. No point going back and forth, best to look forward and hope that the Sens have all the ingredients to secure a playoff spot and then have a great cup run!
