City of Ottawa eMap has application useful for Golfers
I was using the new City of Ottawa eMap for a work project last week, and noticed it has a great application for us golfers. They have the entire region on air photos (2002 & 2005) which you can zoom in on. Here is the link. http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/emaps/index_en.html
(i) Click eMap.
(ii) Once you have zoomed in on your favourite golf course, then right click; select view and then distance.
(iii) Then you can point your start position and drag. The distance in feet will be indicated.
It is very accurate. Try it on something you know the size of ie. your property frontage/depth, and you will see.
Tried it on a few courses, and it was very accurate. It actually makes you think out the distances and certainly has me wondering why I took some chances on certain holes. You can see the exact distances to carry water/bunkers from different tee positions.
If I spend the winter studying my club course, I will not even have to look at the GPS next year.
Have some fun and give it a try............

You can do the same with Google Earth (in yards or meters) but This looks like it may have better resolution satellite imaging for some courses. I'm gonna look around!
Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

You are correct Dan ! With google earth you can use yards (saves the trouble converting from feet). With the City of Ottawa images, you can certainly zoom in much closer. Both are excellent for calculating distances.....

Decided to mess around with it and came up with this:
Manderley South #2. As far as I can tell, the yardages should be very accurate (I used the original photo as a base and drew over top of it).
It would be fun to make a yardage book, although I'm not sure if I'd have time. If I do, I'll post it.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

The resolution where I live is much better than google.
This is pretty neat for looking at your house, as you can see the property lines -until now I never knew exactly where my lot ended and the neighbors started.
As for the golf course next door, it seems that most of the 150 / 100 markers are in the correct place - and yes, you can see them in the images.

There could be many neighbours asked to remove hedges and trees ,once people see where their property lines are....... I am sure most of you know of, or have had neighbours who "create" their own property line angle to accomodate their landscaping.......
