Notice to Home Theater Owners...
I thought I would put this up for any home theater owner without a universal remote.
Dell.ca is having one of its "Days of Deals" sale. Today the feature item is the Logitech Harmony 880 Universal Remote. It is currently on for $129.00, but it's today only. If you want to test out your haggling skills, take a trip to your local Future Shop or Best Buy and try to get them to apply their 110% price match guarantee. They'll try not to do it, but if you push hard enough you should be able to get them to match the price then knock another $17 off.
Here is some info if you've never heard of the Harmony 880.
And here's a direct link to Dell's Sale of the Remote.

I have a harmony 880, the only remote I use now. All the others are put away, highly recommended.

I figured it might happen, I've only ever seen 3 things sell out on their "Days of Deals". They even updated the regular product page, so you can't go and price match at FS or Best Buy.
Better luck next time eh?Let's put a Smile on that Face!

I have the harmony 688. Not too fond of the layout and buttons. Is this one better do you think?

Perhaps these are more specific questions. Will the universal remote control handle more that just the basic features of each item?
These are my tipical daily uses.
TV:
Switching from video1, 2, 3 etc to receive different source (Satellite, DVD, game console). Screen brightness options for day and evening viewing.
A/V:
Switching sources and DSP modes. ControlCalibrates speakers etc. (sometimes)
DVD:
Seems to work well with all Universal remote..

This remote has programable Macros. You can set one button to do everything needed to start a certain function, it will go to the correct video input, turn on your input device and switch your receiver/amp to the proper channel for your home theater.

Hoolio is correct, what you need is a remote with macros.
Sit down,press 1 button and reciever powers up,then t.v,sat etc...Dirty...Mean...And Mighty Unclean.

The All for One has macros. The All for One also doesn't suck back the batteries.

If you're looking for the king of remote controls, I recommend the Home Theater Master series of remotes.
I have the MX-700 and it controls everything in the AV rack.

I agree with rezadue, my wife is anti anything when it comes to remotes. I have the Harmony 880 set up so she can hit one button to watch TV, one for the PVR, one to watch a movie, one to play Xbox 360. It changes the power and more importantly all the inputs as well. I do a bit of travelling and all she has to do is put in the DVD to watch a movie. It controls our rogers cable box/PVR as well. This is the cats *****.

You guys should come to my place--I have 8 remotes and I need them all
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

You should be able to get FS to price match. It would be $149 - ((299.99-149.00) x 0.1 = $15.10) = $133.90 x 1.14 = $152.67
Best bet is to bring a print out of the page. They will likely say they don't price match DELL.COM but you can show them its the Canadian site, then just have them log on and check the price. Don't let them add-on express shipping, because its free shipping from Dell.Let's put a Smile on that Face!

Here we go again...
Well if you missed out last time, I'm gonna give you more Heads up this time.
Best Buy will have this on Sale (On-line Only) for $99.99 starting at 8pm on Sunday December 24th. I fully expect this to sell out in about 7 seconds, so...
Dell will have it back to $129.00 on January 3rd and 4th. As always it will be free shipping. If you aren't too hungover to go to Bestbuy or FS, you can probably get them to to their 110% pricematch and get it for $127.57 w/ tax. This is assuming either place has it listed at the normal $299.99 price.Let's put a Smile on that Face!
