Looking to play some hockey
Looking for a relatively cheap league or pick up to play in. Nothing too competitive. I'm way beyond that stage now, really only play for exercise and comraderie. I don't mind good hockey, just not stupid hockey if you know what I mean. We all have to get up and go to work in the morning right? LMK if you have a team looking another player. Preferably something in the west end.

if all else fails....shinney. I know its a long way off, but there's no better form of hockey, and it sounds like its just the kind of thing you're looking for.

Shinny isn't that hard to organize, if there are enough people on here, along with some outside friends ( 2 goalies is a must!), the just call up a few rinks and see what times they have available. You can count out anything on the weekend except late at night. But if you don't mind later ice times there is always ice somewhere. We use to book midnight hockey and mae a party of it. Have some beers on the bench and in the room and usually the rink rats don't care if you play all night!

dbleber..
I believe when jonf mentioned shinney, he was referring to "true" Canadian outdoor hockey.
I'd be into some outdoor hockey this winter. Brewer Park off Bronson Ave has one of the best spots for shinney. They have dedicated rinks for various levels of play, plus a 400m track.

See I've found a way to enjoy the best part of Hockey without all the Practice or rules... Usually I head down to the Canal on a Thursday afternoon and just start body checking unsuspecting skaters.
I used to rifle slap-shots at the beaver tail stand, but they got all fussy about it and wouldn't serve me afterwards. FacistsLet's put a Smile on that Face!

I am not back for that long, but I am definitely up for as many games as possible when I am back for Christmas....13th of December to the 1st. Let me know when and where and i'll be there.

Unfortunately the outdoor rinks will not be open that early. It is rare they open before January 1st. However, the good news is that most leagues do not play during the Christmas break, which means there is indoor ice time available. Looking at the calendar, I would bet there would be ice time on the 27th, or 28th or 29th.

There has to be at least 10 skaters ad 2 goalies on here and I'm sure we all have a couple of friends to fill up any gaps. 14 skaters is about the max you'd want for shinny. If some one is willing to make the booking, I'm in!

I'm a goalie as well but unfortunately sold all my equipment and just finished selling the last piece of my son's equipment (RSX25 will have a great looking helmet!) but I would definitely be willing to play if I can get my hands on some equipment (I'm sure I can rent it somewhere!)

I assume this would be equipment optional, right? (except for the goalies, of course)

I have just been speaking with my brother and he thinks the city would make you wear equiptment if using their facilities. I had not hard this but I do know that helmets are definately mandatory.

Helmets will be a must, even the rink guys have to wear them on the ice. I don't think they will force you to wear equipment but if you're going to play hockey in a rink, you'd be crazy not too! At least wear full bottom with ellbw pads, I'd prob. leave the shoulder pads but getting a puck or stick in the shins or "other places" isn't fun! Also, for anyone who hasn't skated in a while, I'd wear elbow pads so when you fall on yourass you don't crak you elbow too.
