Help. I'm dropping like a stone. 7th a few weeks ago, I'm now in 19th and falling fast. Why, oh why, did I pick Weir, Mickelson, Elkington and Harrington last week? I must be the kiss of death! The Masters should be even more amusing.

Dark Horse Picks for this week's Masters

Tiger is obviously the favourite, but watch out for Darren Clarke. He's my dark horse pick.

    Unhappy what in tarnation...

I go out of town for one weekend and this is what I get in return! A lousy 12th overall.

I'm really happy for Weir.... too bad I didn't pick him (what was I thinking?)

Hey, if I go down, at least I get to drag Scooby Doo with me (on The Shtick's leash of course!)

For now I'll just "suck it up" and start that slow climb to re-gain my throne as the "Man to Beat".

it is definitely a big fall - at least the fall was worth it - the best left hander in golf - Mike impressed me so much with his composure and his ability to manage his game and himself. That is what makes someone a Masters Champ!

BTW - has anyone else notices that Tiger seems to choke when he feels the pressure - now his pressure is something very different than the rest of the PGA tour but pressure none the less - look at what he has accomplished when he faces his own pressure (when he had a chance to hold all four majors at the same time - when he had the chance to win the masters 3 consecutive times). it seems to me that when he faces his pressure to perform feats never before acoomplished by anoyone else (or at least not done in the modern era) he has not really faded, but exploded _ remember the British open and now this years Masters).

I hope Mike wins Player of the Year 2003. At this rate Tiger may have soemone other than Phil and Ernie to look out for.
Gee Izzy, don't you think people expect way too much of Tiger? He is only human, and not every week can be his. A few errors and people start doubting him. He is the man, and Mike Weir is "in his mirror". Go Mike!

Dan I think you missed my point. Yes people expect unbelieveable things from Tiger but the question is what does tiger expect of himself. Yes Tiger is a great golfer. He also handles the mental game as good as Nickalus. But my point is at what point does the pressure get to Tiger? The only answer can be found in Tiger"s own expectations. How often have we seen him make a mental mistake on a Sunday? Pure and simple mental mistake? mental mistakes are a result of pressure and I suggest that this years Masters and the British open are two examples of Tiger making mental mistakes - which is coincidentally happened under those circumstances (chances at history). Everyone has a breaking point or at least a crumbling - cracking point - perhaps this is tigers? Let me be clear, Tiger is great but he is also human. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hey golfdoc? you have an appreciation of the mental game - what do you think?

    How quickly they forget...

First of all, Tiger did not choke on Sunday at the British Open. He shot 65 - 1 stroke off the course record. His horrible round was on Saturday in the worst weather I've ever seen a professional golf tournament played in. Yes, all the other players had to face the same conditions - but I don't think you can honestly say that anybody "choked" when playing in a freezing rain and gale-force winds.

As for the Masters, he didn't lose that tournament on Sunday either. He played one round under par the entire weekend - the only reason he was still considered "in contention" is because he's the best golfer in the world.

Like Dan said, you can't win every week - in fact you can't even expect someone to play well every week. Mike had a fantastic tournament in Augusta and deserved to win - the week before he missed the cut. That's just the way it is sometimes.

Talking I agree with Izzy 100%

Like he said, the fact is we all have different levels of pressure. Sure...... I got nervous standing over a 4 foot put on the 18th hole at Manderley to shoot par (my lowest ever round). Now this is not the Masters but to me it sure was nerve racking for ME.

I remember Tiger when he first appeared on the Tour and in an interview afterwards, he stated that he "expected to win every tournament he entered". So how much pressure is enough for Tiger??? Only he knows!

Although I think Izzy has line on it.
