Golf Town
Was recently in Toronto, and visited Golf Town, (What a store!). Chatting with the salesperson they tell me Golf Town is looking to expand our way with a store in Hull sometime this year. Looks like Chuck Brown is going to get some real competition here.

we need one
With due respect to local golf retailers, Ottawa needs and can certainly support a Golftown store. Anyone who has been to one of these stores know that they are a golfers dream.
They are huge (think grocery store size) with in-store simulators to try out new sticks, on staff CPGA pros, in-store lessons and a large "shop" area for repairs and adjustments.
My only surprise is that it hasn't happened sooner. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

From what I heard over the weekend, ProGolf in the Hampton Park Plaza is getting a simulator in some time this week.

Simulator
I'd like to get a simulator installed in my basement! Wonder how much a setup like that would cost?

The Full Swing models like the ones at the Canadian and GolfOMax run around 45-50K US from the manufacturer.

ebay Item # 2718497393
You see them on ebay occasionally. Here is a guy selling a few of them - bids start at $10K US.
I'm putting an addition on my house and will make sure I have 10 ft ceilings in the new basement just in case I find one for the right price. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Moving from North Vancouver in the fall I was also surprised there wasn't a Golf Town in Ottawa yet (there's 2 in the lower mainland), since there seems to be the demand and there's alot of crazy golfers here.

Golf Town certainly has a broad selection of equipment and accessories, no question. Having the simulators is a great way to try out various clubs; however when I visited them In Montreal I found their prices to be in line with Chuck's. So hopfully we will get some competition here and get better deals on equipment.

When I spoke to the Cleveland Golf rep for Ottawa he said Golf Town would be opening a store on Merivale Rd. in the future.
That was in fall of '02 , but there's still lots of space on Merivale for new stores.

great news
I live close to Merivale and this sounds great to me.
Another fun store in the neighbourhood besides Canadian Tire. Things in the universe are in perfect harmony again.

I remember when there were just big open fields around Merivale Rd. It sure has changed, a Golf Town store would make it even better.

Golf Town
I was at the store in Pointe Claire (Montreal's West end) on Saturday, it was a golfer's dream. Its huge, for example they must of had about 1000 golf bags to choose from.
As for pricing I found it to be a little higher than Chuckie's but not much.

I sent the guys at Golftown an email asking if they would be opening a store in Ottawa in the near future. I guess I was a little vague with my time frame because I got a vague answer back:

Are there any plans to open in the Ottawa area in the near future? Your Store locator site mentions St. Hubert and Hamilton for 2003. Will that be it for 2003?It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

A Golftown store is definitely a "must" in Ottawa. When ever I am in Toronto or Montreal, I always do a pitstop to check out the latest in golf equipment.
