    Cameron Newport 1.5 Prototype

I just picked one of these up with the oil can shaft and head. The question is should I use it? It has already been used in the past but is in pretty good condition.

That's a beautiful putter, especially with the shaft but I think it's a black pearl finish and not oil can. (I think) If it's black pearl, as long as you take care of it you're not going to do too much damage to the finish as it's pretty durable. It's nickel based and holds up almost as well as pro platinum. If it's been used in the past, you're not decreasing the value by using it. The one thing you might worry about is that the studio has been having some problems doing the black pearl on restorations, there are rumours that the finish may be discontinued and replaced by the 'coal star' tour finish.

Spackler is right.. black pearl head and shaft.. I say if its not mint already go ahead and use it.. You can always send it for a full restore.. I think they are worth around 400-500 mint right now.. providing you have the matching prototype headcover..

    SC Prototype 1.5

Just a note on the pearl finish on the shaft.
I've had mine since it came out in 2003 and have used it ever since (i've not used the original head cover cause i thought someone would steal it - also is a collector's item as well).

I use a carry bag and i have noticed that the pearl finish will wear off in some area of the shaft due to the rubbing inside the bag. Not very noticeable but something to watch for. The wear on the yellow scotty putter grip from rubbing is also a problem if you use a carry bag.
