Just giving you the gears... I find it funny that it's a 'hockey' move... for what else would it be, as they're playing hockey!

Deon was in the process of throwing the body check when the puck was dumped in (watch the video, he had already turned and squared himself to the player). therefore this is just 'finishing the check' as there is not enough time for Deon to avoid hitting him.

The hamerlik interference call was different. He had not engaged Neil before he dumped the puck into the zone and then hit Neil as Neil tried to move around him.

I'm a level 3 referree and that is exactly how I would have called it.... the NHL refs do a great job trying to keep up with the speed of the games. Just watch the little CBC HNC storey about Ron reffing the preseason games out in halifax... just shows you how hard the job is.
