"THE" Marquee event of 2007!!!!!
Fellow forum members, I have recently entered into negotiations with a fellow member of the Toronto Golf Nuts forum to set up a Ryder Cup type of event between players from our forum and theirs. The event will not be taking place until next season, but we both felt it would be good to start planning this thing out now. So when the season rolls around all we need to do is book some tee times.
So here is the basics so far:
1) Myself and racmbs are going to act as captains.
2) The teams will consist of twelve members. As captains we each get to make one pick. The other ten spots will be on a first come/first serve basis. A registration thread with all the final details will be started a month/few weeks before the actual event next season.
3) To reduce the issue of trying to sort out or prove handicaps, all matches will be team matches (scrambles, alternate shot, best ball, etc), no individual matches.
That is as far as him and I have gotten in discussions so far. The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest from the forum and to see what everyone thinks would be the best way to organize this. racmbs and myself are open to suggestions.
The following are some of the ideas I have proposed to him so far, feel free to give you input on anything below:
Date: Thinking about playing this event in mid to late May or early June. This way it should give the courses enough time to in or near tip top shape. We'll try to keep it away from long weekends this time.
Location: A compromise will most likely be reached here. Event will most likely be played in either Belleville or Kingston (seems to be a large selection of courses in the areas).
Course: Now this will be discussed at length over the winter months. We'll be looking for a place that could give us a great deal on green fees and would be more than willing to accomodate us.
Format: I'm thinking 36 holes, breaking it down into 9 hole sections for the different formats. This as well will be finalized over the coming months.
Set up: Now this is where most of the input is needed. How would you like this event be set up? Here are some scenarios:
With playing 36 holes, and travelling that distance, I'm assuming anyone competing in this would like to make it at least an overnight experience. Spend one night with the guys from TO to get to know them a little.
1) Arrive the Friday night, stay over, play 36 on Sat, head home Sat afternoon/evening.
2) Arrive Fri, stay, play 18 on Sat, stay an extra night, play 18 Sun, head home Sun afternoon.
3) Arrive Sat, play 18, stay, play 18 Sun, head home Sun afternoon.
4) Arrive Sat, play 36, stay, head home Sun morning/afternoon.
Interest: Now like I said, this is not the registration thread, but would like to get an idea of the interest level of everyone here. So if you are interested, please post. Don't worry about skill level, its an event for bragging rights only, and we are going to try to set up the event as fair as possible.
So, by all means, discuss away and thanks for taking the time to read.
As a side note, I have discussed this with Dan and he has given us his blessing to use the Ottawa Golf name. So lets represent with pride and show those TGN guys just what type of golfers we are.
So now everyone knows why I was asking about embroidery a while back. I would really like to have hats and maybe a shirt or two made up for our team. So if anyone here does embroidery, or knows anyone that would do it for a good price, please let me know. Thanks.
So I'm looking for ten people (I already know who my captain's pick will be) that love golf, love to meet people, love to have a good time. It should be a blast.Last edited by Big Johnny69; 10-13-2006 at 08:39 AM.

Good one Geoff--one question; Who does "Richard" play for?
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

There are many members that frequent both sites. Basically, if interested, someone would have to determine which site is their "Home" site and hope they get one of the open ten spots. Even though he lives in TO, if he was interested and gets one of the spots, I'm sure "Richard" would be on the OG team.

Seabrook Assocates seabrookassociates.com do all my logo apparel. They always have clearance items in the spring, and they already have the OG logo embroidery file.
I'll help with that when ready if you like.

I like the go up on Saturday play 18 and stay overnight for another 18 idea. A little bit cheaper but i could really go either way.

Sounds like a good idea. Spousal approval will of course be the gating item.

I'm nowhere good enough to represent anything, but I'll be an alternate in case a team can't get the numbers they need, or someone drops out.

What about a guy like me? I live closer to Toronto than Ottawa. However my post count is far greater here than it is on TGN. So can I play for Ottawa? Or, how about this, you enter into an agreement with The London Golf Forum, make is a 3 team event and have it as stroke play.
(We have some RINGERS DOWN HERE )
Either way, depending on dates and locations I might be interested if I can represent the fine Ottawa Forum.
Afterall, Toronto is going to start sending their garabge our way so I can not represent that team!
"DICK" can caddy for me!My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I think its a great idea Geoffrey.... I was contemplating it with the London forum! Although I am not the calibur of player that would join this type of event, I would love to Caddy for somone or I will go just be part of the OG cheering section!!
