Think of it this way. If you were to put both a sphere and box on an axis point and dropped something on both of them off centre, the sphere would spin lots, the box wouldn't much at all. MOI, plain and simple. With the roundness of the sphere, it makes it easier for objects hit off centre to rotate it either open or closed (in golf terms), but hit a box off centre, a whole bunch harder for it to turn. I'm no scientist, but it makes sense to me.

If I hit it better than what I hit now I'd use it. If my shot is pretty I could care less about the club.

I will soon have the oppertunity to try both or the new square drivers. I will post the results. From what I have heard from the reps the are not really longer but make it very hard not to hit the ball straight.
That sucks for me as I have spent huge $ and time trying to fix my swing with lessons and practice.
Just for what it's worth Callaway and Nike will have 4 drivers each for the upcoming season. Needless to say their franchises are not resting on these clubs.

Doesn't bulge and roll help to correct ball flight? And my comments were made taking the overall design into account, not just the face.

Same old story year after year. Longer and straighter is the claim. All marketing. I will be coming out with a new club next year. It'll have the shape of a curved hockey stick. Guaranteed to fix a slice

I tried to buy a solution to my slice without success. Funny thing is that I am much longer and straighter after lessons and practice. Costs abou the same as a new driver to learn to swing one properly.

It does. They call it the gear effect.Fact remains the face is more round around the edges and top and bottom. I am no engineer. I really don't know if this design has a higher MOi than a regular design. Nike claims it does but the only way to find out is a MOI measuring device which I won't buy.

As long as it looks 'square' at address, and I could hit it farther and straighter, manufacturers could put a toaster at the end of a stick for all I care!

The real litmus test will be if their repective manufacturers/contractors can get Tiger and Lefty to play these things on a regular basis, and especially if they start having success with them. Then you'll see them flying off the shelves, no matter how "ugly" they are.
That is, of course, unless these things work too well and the USGA gets involved. You can bet that they'll be all over it like the proverbial "fat kid on a smartie".When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

That, is too funny!
Is it just me or does the 4-slicer aid alignment beautifully!?!www.chapeaunoirgolf.com

Didn't the USGA already get involved and set an MOI limit? I think, like when they set the COR and volume limits, setting an MOI limit immediately encouraged manufacturers to design around it.
I don't think these clubs are designed to get tour players using them, they're more for mortals. I think if companies designed clubs to meet the needs of average golfers, as opposed to touring pros, they would be a lot more successful over the long term.

Ah yes, you are correct about the MOI thing. I was under the impression that it was still being considered, but I found the technical document in the USGA site.
With respect to the marketing part, the majority of high end golf products sold today have an "A-list" player attached to them, with very few exceptions (Nickent would be one, but even they have high end pro exposure mainly by word-of-mouth). As Accuform found out back in the day, you can have a very well made product, that's played by a lot of popular players, but if you don't tell people that, nobody's going to buy it.
The American "monkey-see, monkey-do" marketing style is extremely effective at making the player/celebrity/consumer connection.
Someone on tour will be playing, at least, a "tour issue" version of one of these clubs for sure. After all, they have to make their R&D money back somehow. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

The SQ2 seems to be very practicle from a manufacuring perspective - Looks like you can use the same club right handed or left handed
