Ottawa ~ Today, during Championship Round 4, Scott Johnson shot a 76 at Eagle Creek Golf Course to win the Ottawa Citizen Amateur Golf Championship Presented by the Buick Dealers of Ottawa-Hull and sponsored by Tommy & Lefebvre!

Going into the Championship Round, Scott Johnson of the Eagle Creek Golf Club was tied for the lead with Outaouais golfers, Michael Walker and Larry Lucas. Walker and Lucas shot an 82 and an 83 respectively, which left them in 5th and 7th places overall. Al Jensen Jr. finished in second place overall, shooting a 79 today.

When asked about the tournament, Mr. Johnson stated, “The Ottawa Citizen and the Buick Dealers of Ottawa-Hull did a fantastic job. I enjoyed this tournament because it tested your play over a period of a month. This format is unlike any other in the area. It forced the golfers to make true golf shots and sustain that level of play for a substantial period of time at four excellent courses.”

144 local amateur golfers, all with an index of 10 or less, competed in the first 2 rounds, which took place at the Kanata Golf and Country Club and Stonebridge Golf and Country Club at the beginning of July. The field was then reduced to 72 golfers (plus ties) for Round 3, which took place at Camelot Golf and Country Club. 37 golfers of the original 144 were invited to compete in first inaugural Championship Round.

New Amateur Champion, Scott Johnson holds the best cumulative gross score (305) after the four rounds of competition. Al Jensen Jr. shot a cumulative score of 310. Mr. Johnson was presented with a crystal trophy for the inaugural tournament.
