    Wedges

What are the 'standard' lofts for wedges these days if there is such an animal as a standard. Pitching? Sand? Gap? and Lob?

PW range anywhere from 46-49 nowadays

    GW is 50-54

    SW is 55-57

    LW is 58-64

Every manufacturer has different lofts, but just a general idea.

It seems the SW is still in the 56* range (and LW 60*), while the PW (that typically comes with iron sets) has strengthened from the "standard" 50* range towards the 45-47* range. Hence the creation of the gap wedge which really fills the void left as the PW becomes a 9i. To me the club manufacturers have created additional revenue here! You now buy a set that is 4i-PW which is really what 3i-9i was. So now you need to go buy a gap wedge. And hey, I can't hit this 4i so I better go get a 4i hybrid equivalent. So really you are paying full pop for an iron set but only using 5i-PW (which really are 4i-9i), then springing extra for a GW and a 4I hybrid.

What clubs do you own? You can usually find the lofts of OEM irons on their websites.
I play with WISHON 550C and the lofts are more traditional than the new OEM Irons.
    550C Specifications:
    Head Loft
    2-iron – 18°
    3-iron – 21
    4-iron – 24
    5-iron – 28
    6-iron – 32
    7-iron – 36
    8-iron – 40
    9-iron – 44
    PW – 48
    AW – 52
    SW – 55

I was playing TaylorMade 200 irons, and the PW was 45*. When I first switched to the 550C's I wondered why I came up a little short on some of my iron shots! I checked the lofts on both and instantly knew why!

My gap wedges are 52 and 56 degrees, which matches up perfectly with the 48* PW from the Wishon's.

Check and see if you can find your irons lofts on the internet.

    TAYLORMADE IRON SPECS LISTED HERE

My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I find it depends on how much room you have in the bag and how comfortable you are with hitting different wedge shots. I use a 52 and a 58. You can open and close each to make them go further or shorter or half or 3/4 shots. I like the changing of the face and hitting full, I play around with the half and 3/4 shots but they are hit and miss.

I have Cleveland wedge set (51, 56, 58)... but when I play courses that need to get up and down around the green quick, I carry this 64 degree wedge M groove.
Not a lot of adjustment on the stance and it's a round saver!!
