    This actually works!!!

So I was at a lesson and was thinking... he keeps telling me to keep my head more still and only have a very slight back to front and front to back head movement on the back swing and the downswing.. so I thought, why don't I put a penny on my head... well I just recently shaved my head (bic'ed it) and the penny just sticks to my head so I used a jelly bean. Because the bean is round you have to have very little head movement otherwise it will fall off. I found that you need to flatten the JB just a little bit which you can do by pressing it between your thumb and index but don't flatten it to much or it will be to easy to swing without it falling off. Anyway, I went to the range and people thought I was really wierd, borderline retarded... but no slice, no hook and decent distance of 260 and after each good drive I treated myself to a JB. Even on the swings where the bean fell off it was still straight as it just barely fell off the top of my head.

    Is this legal??

Legal at the range, but no during a round of golf. Anything that is training aid like is not allowed to be used during a round of golf. Basically anything that helps you with your swing, alignment etc.

Speaking of alignment "aids" I played with a lad last week who would pick out his line, stand behind his ball, then make a small indentation in front of the ball with the toe of his club - obviously to help him line up (I'll often pick out a blade of grass or something on my intended line) and I was wondering if this was legal or not. I think not, but I don't know for sure.

    Thoughts?

Why not buy a Tam (one of those funny hats that are flat on top) and wear it up-side down on you head

Not allowed. See Rule 13-2 below.

13-2. Improving Lie, Area of Intended Stance or Swing, or Line of Play
A player must not improve or allow to be improved:

    * the position or lie of his ball,
    * the area of his intended stance or swing,
    * his line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or
    * the area in which he is to drop or place a ball, by any of the following actions:
o moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed (including immovable obstructions and objects defining out of bounds),
o creating or eliminating irregularities of surface,
o removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, replaced divots or other cut turf placed in position, or
o removing dew, frost or water.

However, the player incurs no penalty if the action occurs:

    * in fairly taking his stance,
    * in making a stroke or the backward movement of his club for a stroke and the stroke is made,
    * on the teeing ground in creating or eliminating irregularities of surface (Rule 11-1), or
    * on the putting green in removing sand and loose soil or in repairing damage (Rule 16-1).

The club may be grounded only lightly and must not be pressed on the ground.

Exception: Ball in hazard — see Rule 13-4.

I just have to ask: for the ones that fell, did you allow the five second rule before munching on them? And what works better, jelly bellies or the traditional ones?

Damn, now I have a craving....

5 second rule? you mean 5 minute rule?

There must be something I can do... what if I wore a trucker hat and wore it high on my head so I can fit a bean between my head and the inside of the hat.. is it cheating if no one else knows you are doing it? I guess I can just pretend there is a bean on my head. What about a drop of water, that would work as well

I think that is a pretty good drill. For sure you cannot do it on the course but a great idea for practice.
