    Anderson Links

Drove by today and saw that Flags,Ball washers and benches are up. Seemed to have a trailer inplace in frobt of the club house. Is it open for business? It seems a little silly to not open the course and put the pins in.

The pins were not there last Saturday when I drove past.

I heard there is a "invitation only" round this week. Presumably we can all play it in the spring?

I played there today! Members of Emerald Links get a preview of the course this week. All 18 holes are open, greens & tee boxes are fantastic (I guess when you are one of the first groups out they should be!) #10 fairway is in need of a little grass...

Nice layout, several holes are cut through decently mature trees, water comes into play on a few holes but is not a nuisance like I thought it might be. The fairways are Kentucky Blue (just like your front lawn!) not like at Emerald links! There are also several holes that are open "Links" style. The greens are large and undulating, similar to E.L. - maybe even a little bigger. Overall I enjoyed the course and would go back fo another round. We played in 3:40 which isn't too bad for a foursome on a course they never played before.

I heard players with an Emerald Links reward card can play next week.

Great--I am going out with a "Twilight Tracer" around midnight.
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

If anybody gets to play it again, please take pics to show us what it looks like.

I guess the owner is the same as EL?

Played Anderson links today and what anice addition to ottawa golf courses. Mr. Cook has gone all the way to put a nice course together that can play to different level of players from 4 different T's and a varitey of set ups from every T to green.
The white and blue Ts are are huge and long, With the combination of very big modestly angulated greens that are shapped very nicely and protected by bunkers or water run offfs or punds , the variety of tee and pin set up can make it very difficult to score well from any tee. There are 6, 6, and 6 of each par that makes. it a par 72 course , most of the par 5 are carved into trees and the landing area is very naroow sorounded by trees on both sides or water on one side if no tree. .
the course can play very tough if the wind is up because most of it has no defence against the wind , it's a combination of cloverdale and Emerald links with longer fairways and biger greens.
overall it's a must play for all the golfers and it's alot of fun. the club house is at it's fininshing stages. some bunkers are not quite finished yet, but overall the course is in great condition a lot better than many stablished courses in the area.
Congradulations to Emerald links group of designers and workers. very well done.

Played Anderson Links today and these are my impressions from a third season golfer.

    The good;
    • Wonderful greens, big and in good shape and without different elevations that make putting a casino bet. Greens reward good putters.
    • Big tees also, well formed and laid out.
    • Grass, grass and more grass, grass everywhere, no unmanicured land.
    • Slicer’s heaven, all trouble is on the left side. Will appeal to the high handicap golfer.
    • Pretty ponds that don’t come into play unless you have serious course management issues.
    • Quick drive from downtown Ottawa. Took me 15 minutes, 20km.
    • Very wide fairways, with very little trouble. Can always go for the green without worrying about a possible disaster.
    • Clubhouse structure has nice surrounding veranda for beers after.
    • Much more spacious that Emerald Links, which can be claustrophobic.
    • Don’t need to take an extra ball.

    The So-So
    • It is a Links course like the owners other courses, Emerald Links and Cloverdale. (I find all Links courses visually boring.) But I guess that is what you get when you have flat farmland to work with.
    • The fairway grass growth is good for a new course but has yet to mature, it will take a couple of years.
    • It is still a work in progress. For example, no cart paths yet, no markings, the Clubhouse is still a shell.

    The Bad;
    • Drainage; the course was very wet and it looked to me that flooding could be a problem after rainstorms.
    • Long walks to some tees, the layout is not compact. .
    • Very short par 3’s, not a challenge even for a short hitting senior like me.
    • No old growth trees that you must play around, like the several that exist at Emerald Links.
    • No doglegs. I like doglegs. Strange for a big name designer. (Cooke)

    Overall Impression

Nice addition to the many choices for Ottawa golfers. It will be a big success. Course will quickly be in great condition quickly, as Emerald Links usually is, because the earthworks are very well done. Because I am not fan of Links courses, I did not find it nearly as pretty as say Loch Marsh or Eagle Creek. And it will not challenge the low-handicap golfer.
Shot an 88, which is a good score for me. (with 2 birds and 4 pars. Had a wedge issue.)
