Good question actually.

In some respects, it is actually MORE important for a beginner to be fit.

Most good golfers can adjust to whatever they are handed because they have a certain level of skill. A beginner golfer with a set that is simply not right for them will struggle.

As a minimum if you are buying clubs as a beginner you should make sure they fit you physically, i.e. they are the correct length for your height/wrist to floor measurement. This alone will help to reduce a lot of frustration.

Hell, I'm a single digit handicap and I would never think of trying to hit a 46" driver but there are lots of beginners out there swinging them.
