What are your golf goals this year...?
...And what are you going to do differently this time?
-
03-03-2003 03:53 PM #2
First of all I will play a lot more this year than last year - hopefully close to 100 rounds. Secondly I will stick with the sets of clubs I am starting the season with for the entire year.
Finally, this will be the year when my practice will focus on the short game - putting and chipping. I will not visit a driving range to work on full shots.
-

Drop some strokes of course
Several goals in fact:
1. Putt better - curse less (these go hand in hand)
2. Shave 3-5 strokes off my game and hit the driver better (These DO NOT go hand in hand!)
3. Have at least as much fun as I did last year!
Keep thinking warm thoughts......

This year goal
My Goal This Year :To break par.
I have been setting my goal every year..."To break last year lowest score". Since I shot even par for the first time last year...therefore I will do whatever it takes this year to break par.
I don't know yet what I have to do but I will figure it out, hopefully, before the end of the year.

Goals for the year
My goals, in no particular order, for the coming golfing year:
1. Have even more fun than I already have on the course, especially when playing golf with my wife;
2. Drop my handicap by 1.5 strokes - yes, I know, I can dream;
3. Make the cut in the City and District A Class Championship;
4. Lose no golfing bets to Chris (he knows who he is);
5. Shoot a few rounds in the 60s (if I am to beat Chris consistently, this will be a necessity);
6. Play at least 4 rounds with my dad, who's 82, and my brother and sister.
7. Did I say, have fun.

1)Play at least 20-25 rounds before the end of August.
2)Play at least 10 different courses in the Ottawa area.
3)Try to go low at my new home course (Manderley)
4)Introduce my daughter(2) to the wonderful world of golf.
5)Play a few rounds with some people on this forum.
1+5=lots o' fun

1. play half a dozen rounds with my 12-year old daughter who has just taken an interest in the game
2. break 80 more than 5 times
3. have no score higher than 90
4. average no more than 32 putts per round
5. lower my handicap from 11 to 9.x
-
03-04-2003 06:28 AM #10
1) Handicap factor down to 16 (currently 18.5)
2) Play well in OGTour events (lots going on, hard to keep focused)
3) Ensure all players on the Tour have more fun than they expect to.
4) Beat Steve straight up.
5) Play golf with my daughter's 15 year old boyfriend, who is currently undergoing chemo therapy.

?????????
Dan, I think golfman71 was talking about the year 2003.
Maybe one of those goals is a little outta range???
But I agree with your goals set for the OttawaGolf Tour.
1) As far as personal goals for myself, I have to agree with Thom. I too shot that elusive "par" round (at Manderley) and now will shoot to break par!
2) Have single digit handicap by June.
What will help me achieve that, will be to keep hitting fairways with my drives and making better 2nd shots to the greens. Being more consistant and use better course management, will also help alot.
3) Oh yeah............and to add to my wallet more than I take out again !!

I just want to play more than 10 or 12 rounds this year. Hopefully 20-30. And I really don't care if I play badly or not.

Goals are good. I met most of my goals last year, and even exceeded some of them.
1) Reduce errors, especially mental errors.
2) Hit fairways over 75%.
3) Practice more short game, 40 yards and less.
4) Break my records for games in the 70's, birdies and eagles.
5) Enjoy the weather, the golf and the course.
...and play more golf with my family.spidey

i'm sure there will be plenty of time to play this year.
BTW>>>>>> almost forgot another goal for this year.........BEAT GREEN TEAM at OG Tour Ryder Cup Event.

Hey, I want to beat Steve too! (No wait, I've already done that)
Okay, then in no particular order I would like to:
- enjoy the game even more than I do now
- develop more consistancy with my irons
- take short game lessons and practice it more
- take another 5 strokes off my handicap, but..
- not take my score too seriously
- finally decide what clubs I'm going to play for the next few yearsGolf is a game invented by the same people who think music comes out of bagpipes.

only 2 goals
1)Play one shot at a time.
2)most important one: learn to forget bad shots.Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

Here are my goals:
1. to putt better and with more consistency
2. to play more on good courses (I was a member at Les Vieux Moulins last year!!!)
3. to let André outdriving me at least one time
(be careful in your reply André!)
4. to continue having fun with my golf buddies by not taking the game too seriously.

outdriving
Pretty easy task my friend. All I have to do is get the ball in the fairway.

Is there anyone here like me who is just a "new equipment junkie"? I hate to think I'm the only one who is materialistic enough to have 'trying new equipment' as one of my primary goals.... anybody? If so, I'd love to know what new equipment you want to get...
-
03-05-2003 12:36 PM #25
equipment
I'm thinking of building a set of snake eye irons available from Golfsmith which consist of 3-4-5 hybrid 5-6-7 cavity back 8-9-p-s muscle back. Of course the'll all be spined and floed. Steel shafts either Harrison Professionnal or Raven or Apollo Balistik. Then I rest my case.

Hi golfman71, I am always trying new equipment. My golf buddies are really happy this year, last august I switched from left handed to shooting right. And now they keep asking me what new equipment am i getting this year so they can try it. I am looking for a new driver, not sure what kind and a new putter .What are you going to be trying? Main goal this year is trying to cut down buying new equipment. And to break 90.
P.S. Dan, Best wishes to your daughter's boyfriend

Great idea for a post.
Everbody's so positive!!! Reminds me of the sportswriters at the CUBS & RED SOX training camps.......
Seriously:
1) get to at least 6 new Ottawa Valley Courses. I've managed 63 so far but they keep building 'em faster.
2) meet & play with a bunch of you guys who I've been chatting with all winter. C'mon METCALFE!!!
3) get at least one EAGLE. None last year but 8 over the last 6 years.
Is the golf show really only 9 days away?????

From mpare:
2. Drop my handicap by 1.5 strokes - yes, I know, I can dream; It better be more than a dream or you won't win any money!
4. Lose no golfing bets to Chris (he knows who he is); See number 2 - Start collecting your change!
5. Shoot a few rounds in the 60s (if I am to beat Chris consistently, this will be a necessity); You will need more than a FEW rounds in the 60s!
My goals in no particular order:
1) To beat last year's low score of 68.
2) To keep my handicap consistently around 0 for the whole season.
3) To have my offseason coach (Warren Grant - shameless plug) monitor me throughout the season
4) To keep working on my short game and putting as distance is not the issue
5) To do well in the Match Play and City and District
6) To watch my girls play at twilight as often as possible during the summer
7) To continue enjoying the great Men's night we have at Greensmere!
8) To keep having fun playing this game we call golf!!!
I can't wait!!!

As far as new drivers go, I've been curious about Aldila's ONE shaft (http://www.aldila.com/product6.html) ~ it's the only shaft I've heard of with "segmented flex technology", although I don't know if the ONE shaft is or isn't the only shaft to utilize this. I have no idea what clubhead to fit onto it. Any ideas? Maybe a Cobra...
