Match Play this week!
whats the deal with the prize money breakdown for the Match Play championships? Does everyone win money like a regular tournament? I saw that first place was over 1 million bucks, i didnt see what the total purse was. Is it just based on how far the players get in the bracket, towards how much they win? I dont know whether to pick all my guys for the pool from the Match Play tournament or pick some guys playing in tucson, tough decision.

I don't know what the breakdown is this year, but in past years I think the breakdown was something like:
first stage losers walked away with $25k each
second stage losers $50k
3rd-4th stages I can't recall but they were something like $75k and $150k
first place prize was around $1M
2nd $500k
third around $350k
4th $250k

Total purse for Match Play is around 6M while the Tuscon was 3M last year with the winner getting 540K

hmm
so i guess i have a better chance of picking who's going to come out on top at the match play, then picking who's going to win out of the losers!! but then again, there are some good guys not playing in the match play. I think i'll stick to the big boys, like wier, els, tiger, goosen.....players i know have done fairly well in match play

I believe it's 6 million total purse so make your picks wisely. Ya might want to strategically load up on individuals you might think will go far in there brackets. Lots of $$$$$.

Tough Picks
Statistically, your odds are much better concentrating all your picks to the Match Play Championship and ignoring the other. Losers in the Match Play still get a cheque whereas at least half the field will take a walk at the Chrysler without receiving a cent for their effort.

But with Els out in the first round, Weir wins the West Coast Swing no matter what he does.

Sweet Swinging Canadian
Go all the way, Mike. You are my salvation. My picks are dropping like flies: Els, Goosen, Monty. Match play is much more difficult to handicap than a 4 day contest. Guess that's what makes it so exciting. Now if only Tiger, Padraig, Justin Rose, Darren and Mike can stay in the fight I should be able to remain in front of Steve!

I checked online how Mike was doing, they had the 18th hole as him taking a 6 and Loren w/ a 5. So I though it was over. Good to see they screwed up and Mike's on to the 2nd round.
