drug testing for PGA pros?
Anybody have any thoughts about Tiger's statement that was reported on CNN last night on Drug testing for the PGA tour players?
It was just a quick snippit but Tiger said he would like to see performance enhancing drug tests made mandatory effective immediately to protect the sport of golf.
I think there is something behind that statement and may well be aimed directly at a particular tour pro.Proud member of the 2009 OG/TGN Ryder Cup Champions

Saw the statement by Tiger yesterday also. PGA tour Chief Finchem seems to think there's no need for it, I agree. What "player" do you think Tiger was referring to Indio?

No no no and no. Phil? C'mon. The only drug Phil is on is sugar from his dozen donuts a day.

It makes sense. These fellas earn megabucks for athletic endevour so performance enhancing drugs would be cheating. Most other sports, even ones who play for far smaller rewards do testing.
Why bother pointing fingers and guessing? That's just wrong. Testing would be across the board.

It was interesting that they talked about this on the telecast yesterday and without saying who they talked to, they said to a golfer they all said 'being it on'
Ian Baker-Finch said the the game of golf is all about honesty and professionalism and that if anyone on the PGA used a performancing enhancing drug, every player on tour would be all over them. He siad the PGA tour playes regulate themselves.....
Isn't that what they say about all the other sports?Proud member of the 2009 OG/TGN Ryder Cup Champions

I don't think Tiger is directing this at anyone in particular (although I am sure there are suspects). He does not care about the competition because he will still b-slap them on the course anyhow. Tiger knows what side his $90 mil a year bread is buttered on and he wants to make sure the whole golf marketing machine does not get tarnished and start leaking money.

Do ya think "LUMPY" & JD are on those performance enhancing pills? I mean c'mon, Lumpy did win an event this year! JD pulled out of the event in Germany with those nasty stomach cramps, could be caused by some bad enhancement drugs. (Or some bad BEER )
You know, this just reeks of the same issue with Woods being out driven two years ago. "Test all of the drivers, because suddenly guys are blowing it past me. That isn't right, must be illegal drivers in some guy's bags"
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Maybe the PGA should endorse performance enhancers so that some guys can catch Tiger . In all seriousness though....they should test for all kinds of performance enhancers. I for one like to see people playing their best not performing with serious long term risks. Last thing golf should do is turn into is baseball....im not going to get into that. This is the first time I recall this issue being at the forefront of golf media and the PGA should stop it now, before it's to late.

Why not test? Like Tiger said, be preemptive about it. The worst thing that could happen to golf is what's happened in other sports like baseball, football, track, and cycling. Deal with it before it has a chance to become an issue. With that kind of money on the line, week in and week out, it's only a matter of time...
The kind of drugs they should focus on are those that enhance muscle function, not increase strength. Any substance that will increase nerve function and make muscles fire faster is a definite area of focus. Also drugs that increase mental function and stamina. Your brain loses focus, and your body gets tired after walking for 5 miles in the hot sun. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Beta blockers. They would be the most beneficial to these guys:
Beta blockers block the action of endogenous catecholamines, epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline) in particular, on β-adrenergic receptors, part of the sympathetic nervous system which mediates the "fight or flight" response.
Nick Price takes (or used to take) beta blockers for a true high blood pressure condition. Many grumbled about it (Norman was one) when Nick dominated golf for a few years there.I don't have an ulcer - I am just a carrier.

If someone suddenly becomes a calm zombie out there, then you know he is up to something. Wait, most are already expressionless zombies! Dang, will never know the difference.
