    Is anyone this inconsistent?

Today, I got my first eagle in a tournament on the 300 yard, par 4, 7th hole. Then, the rest of the front nine, I got nothing better than double bogey with a smattering of 7s and 8s. I finished 52 for the front. Then, on the back, I started with a triple bogey then proceeded to finish the next 8 holes at 3 over. Hit 7 of those 8 greens in regulation.

God this game is frustrating. I know I have the game. I can play near-scratch for 8 holes. But the other 10? I'm a total, utter hacker.

Who else is this inconsistent? Anyone?

edit: Thinking about this again - taking my best 9 holes, I was 1 over. Taking my worst 9 holes, I was 21 over!

yep, most frustrating game ever!!!! You know you can make the shot, you try to make the shot...........but nope....stupid ball didn't go where it was suppose to!!!!! I'm told most of us just put too much pressure on ourselves. We make the shot a few times, then expect to make it all the time................very frustrating. But I know for me the thought of doing better is what makes me keep coming back!!!

I dont know if this will help you but its made a big difference in my game and also can be applied to your daily activities.A couple of weeks ago i was struggling to break 90 on a regular basis.I had thought that the death of my mother affected my game so i talked to one of the pros at the Canadian (Justin) and told him about this .He loaned me a book called;Golf is not a game of perfect by Bob Rottela. This book as changed the way i look at golf and also my life.My game is back on track
and i enjoy even the bad shots.Go figure. Happy reading, hope this helps you out.

I've heard good things about this book and after reading yet another endorsement I finally pulled the trigger. Looking forward to a good read.

    I am unfortunately.

I shot a 39 on the front 9 of Sorcier.

    2 weeks later

Shot a 69 on the front of Links O' Tay. Links O' Tay is WAY easier.

    Go figure.

FWIW; the 39 was my best of the season and the 69 my worst.

I just got off to an awful start; bad breaks; broke an iron and generally just wasen't having fun and didn't care.

    Amateurs = inconsistent.

    68 (-2) followed by an 87 (+17) then 82, then 71…..

I seem to be more consistent usually, often getting same on front and back, but a few times this year I was 41-59 and 42-57, mostly if I have a bad nine it is on the back (IN) for some reason.

Yup, I'm with mberube on this one. Last Thursday 71, Monday 81, Tuesday 72 and then today I shoot an 80.

Played today; I was 3 or 4 over on everything first 8 holes. Made par and bogey the last 4 holes.

It's weird sometimes I feel like I"ve never swung a club before(which really sucks when you've played over 80 rounds this season) other times I feel really pure. Beats me.

YOu think that is bad... I had 2 birds... 6 pars and on the other 10 holes... lets just say I didn't break 100! I suck

    Consistency

How about 40 on the front nine and 54 on the back nine, thought I broke 90 for sure lol

I concur with the earlier posts and also have a lot of inconsistent rounds. One interesting observation: I most often play with my wife and she is not nearly as inconsistent. We play Stonebridge and she does not have as many carries as the men do so, if she has an off driver day, she's still likely to be somewhere in the fairway and if it happens to me... well, you know what I mean.

Do you guys find that women, because they play shorter distances, are generally not as inconsistent than men tend to be?

Yeah they hit it way lighter and it doesn't travel anywhere near as far so even bad shots still dont ahve the distance to make it into the woods.

Either way I"d rather loose a bunch than hit as far as your stereotypical women who starts later in life coz even if they hit it straight all day it's still 5 shots if they're lucky before they start putting ...

I think we might have a plausible explanation here. Are most of us medium to long hitters? I hit a 8 iron between 150 and 160 and my driver goes 280-ish.

When I hit out off line, I usually get into big trouble. OB, fescue or a hazard. That balloons my scores in no time. When I'm hitting it well, then I'm on the green in regulation and set up for a par or birdie.

I play with a lot of old guys at my club. They'll hit their drives 220, hit a 5 wood to the fringe, chip up and sink their putt. I play with one guy who's 72 and beats me every time with scores in the low-80s. He never gets into any kind of trouble.

I suppose we could all do the same thing - hit irons off the tee, etc. But I'm not ready for that yet. I like hitting it long and well I guess my scores will suffer.

    Inconsistent round

Anybody else ever get something like this.

I recently played a course in Northern Ontario (Par 72) and had what I think to be my most inconsistent round ever.

I finished with 84, not terrible but if you looked at my scorecard, it had everything from an eagle to a quadruple bogey on it.

    1 eagle
    1 birdie
    1 quad
    1 triple
    2 doubles
    4 bogeys
    8 pars.

    Just a weird day.

I recently played with a buddy who went--bogey/par/double/10!/birdie/eagle!/par/bird/par on the front nine.

I've never seen anything like it. The mental fortitude that one must possess to score a ten and then shoot 3 under on the next two holes is beyond me!

Had a guest at our last outing win every closest to the pin with more than 40 golfers, one with a hole in one and still shot a 87 on a par 70. He had 4 birdies and a HIO and I still beat him by 12 strokes playing like a pig. This can be a strange game at times.

Sounds like one of my games. Last week, I played a triple bogey free round. I shot 90 but still, no triples is a heck of an accomplishment for me.

Two things I'm working on - keeping my mental focus on short chips to avoid chunking one and, chipping it out of the trees instead of attempting superman shots.
