    Lehman picks Cink and Verplank

OK, I can see Cink here as he was #12 on the Ryder Cup Points list for the Americans but Verplank was #20!!

A lot of quality guys were above him on the list like:

    Brett Wetterich (??)
    John Rollins (??)
Jerry Kelly (swings a hammer well)
Lucas Glover (young gun who is looooong)
Davis Love III (will be pissed)
Fred Couples (bad back, could have been an issue)
Timothy Herron (built like me )
    Tom Pernice (ya right!)
...and even the Capt. Tom Lehman himself (could he have picked himself?)

    Very, very interesting.

So what do you think, do the Americans have a shot this time around? Will Tiger show up and play like Tiger?

Cink is a good pick, Verplank is not. IMO Glover is an obvious pick from this list, and should be there.

I would have gone with Love or Kelly before Verplank.

Looks like he was trying to pick two veterans for the team. I don't have a problem with the choices.

In as much as I will be cheering for the Euopean side, I still think that these are 2 good picks for the US. Cink and Verplank are both steady solid players who will be counted on mainly to help out in the fourball and foursomes matches (historically a weakness for the Americans). DL III said that he wanted to play his way on to the team, not be picked, so the only guy he'll be pissed at is himself for not performing. Everybody else who had a chance really stunk it up on the weekend at the PGA. It just made it that much tougher for Lehman to choose.

P.S. Wetterich is in anyways. He finished 10th in the points...

FYI - The European team currently looks like this...

    1 Luke DONALD
    2 Sergio GARCIA
    3 Henrik STENSON
    4 David HOWELL
    5 Colin MONTGOMERIE
    6 Robert KARLSSON
    7 Paul CASEY
    8 Padraig HARRINGTON
    9 Paul MCGINLEY
    10 José Maria OLAZÁBAL

Based on the top 5 coming from the European Ryder Cup World Points List, and the rest coming from the top 5 not already qualified from the Euopean Ryder Cup Points List.

You'd have to think that if Darren Clarke says he's ready to go, he will be one of Woosnams picks...
