Dave Pelz Comments
Dave sez :
"When Phil's at his best, I'm thinking nobody can beat him," said Pelz.
Asked if that included Woods, Pelz decided to elaborate, at the risk of providing unnecessary bulletin-board fodder for the Woods camp. "You bet it does," said Pelz. "If Phil's long swing is good, his short game, I believe, is the best in the world. He doesn't have a serious weakness inside 150 yards. I'm not saying Tiger's short game is bad. But I think Phil putts more consistently than Tiger does. He has more imagination and a few more shots around the green."
He may be right but the upshot of it is he is adding fuel to Tigers fire.Last edited by Shivas Irons; 08-16-2006 at 02:13 PM.

Dave sez:
"Man, I am so the best. I mean, come on, look at me, I'm the greatest teacher ever. Just look at Mick - I did that. Oh man, I love myself. I am so great. Phil is the greatest...because I am the greatest. I'm so great it's criminal. They should lock me away. I'm dangerous."

maybe him and phil got into a fight? maybe phil didn't tip pelz this year? Pelz just pulled an aimes and phil is going to get burned!!! Phil, you use your stupid two drivers... tiger doesn't need one

Methinks Pelz is a bit of a "homer".
I disagree with the statement that Phil has a better short game. "Better" doesn't necessarily mean using a larger variety of shots...sometimes Phil tends to get a little cute around the green. Tiger seems to make the safe smart play greenside.
Proof is in the pudding, let's see what happens at the end of 18 on Sunday.

Phil is better than Tiger???? Since when are 3 Majors better than 11? I guess that 29 Career wins is better than 50 too
.......AND his short game isn't that good, he is ranked 114th in scrambling - Tiger is 87th.
Tiger #1 on the money list, Phil #3 with 5 more events played
All that aside, the one thing that Phil lacks is the ability to finish. When Tiger has a title in his grasp he very, very rarely lets it go.
Phil is better than tiger.........PLEASE!!

It's all great fodder for the media. Tiger knows as well as anyone, there's only one thing standing between him and the Trophy on Sunday... Medinah.

Peltz is a dork.. I don't think he realizes that there is more to the game than hitting the golf ball.. Which Tiger does the best in my opinion.. But mentally no one is tougher than Tiger..

Hmmm.. The Ryder cup being a few weeks away, somewhere the Europeans are relishing this saga... On second thoughts, check which media are throwing these questions to these two players.

Well, for what it's worth, Dave's Short Game Bible has saved me a few hundred strokes. Of course, that's over the last few Summers.
Just getting me to realize all the options that are in front of me; bounce it in, flop it in, roll it in & even putt it in!! They can all work.
Personally, I think Tiger fears Ogilvy just as much as Phil.

...and FIGJAM's reaction to the Pelz comment :
Asked about his short-game guru, Dave Pelz, who told the Chicago Tribune, "When Phil is at his best, I'm thinking nobody can beat him," Mickelson didn't miss a beat.
"My man, he's enthusiastic," Lefty said with that aw-shucks grin of his. "I have tried not to give you too much to run with, so I'm paying other people now to do it."

A teacher is only as good as his students. He is this popular because of Phil’s talent. He works with a number of tour players but we don’t hear from them.
I have both Pelz bibles and I don’t like what he preaches in his putting bible. Straight back straight through is not for everyone. What I hate about him is that he says it is.
Tiger and Phil are very good short game players but Tiger is miles in front when everything is on the line. He is the ultimate clutch putter, chipper, pitcher and all around scrambler down the stretch in golf. Nobody can deny that. Call it lucky, call it skill, he’s got it.
