Belfour a Panther
Ed Belfour to the Panthers for a year. Not sure of the contract details.

750k USD 1 year. PAYCUT he made 4.56 million last year. OUCH. That mustve hurt more then his back.

Yeah, I actually think this was a great move on Florida's part. Belfore's still a solid goaltender (assuming his recovery from back surgery goes smoothly), but facing 40 shots a night may become a problem - who knows. Overall, a bargain my any measure.

I'll be surprised if he plays his 50/50 share with Auld. Luongo faced almost 400 shots more (2488) than the next highest goalie (Brodeur) last season, albeit it was over 75 games. But even projected over 41 games, he's on pace to average more shots per game (33) than he ever did with the Leafs. I don't think his back, repaired or not, can take that kind of workload.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

although at least half of those shots came from Luongo's complete inability to control his rebounds. That said, Belfour is done. He can't play any more. All this does is take playing time away from a young, talented goalie.
