    Toughest greens in the region

What are the toughest greens to read in the region. I say Edelweiss ranks way up there. Very tough on speed and hardly ever a straight 3 footer. Any others out there?

Although they have slowed them down from when they first opened, most people have trouble at Stonebridge.

Tiers + speed = tough putting.

I agree on the Edelweiss greens. I live in Ottawa my whole life so I know most of the courses. I'd have to say that Edelweiss always has super fast greens that are always hard to judge.

Stonebridge's greens are just plain stupid. Way too severe. That being said, I find them easy to read because the breaks are obvious. Heritage's greens on the other hand are very tough to read because you have to take into account the effect of the surrounding hills and valleys.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

The severity and speed of the greens at the Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club is one of the best kept secrets in the Ottawa region .

I think the greens at Stonebridge are kinda tough.

I think Rideauview has some tough greens when they are fast like they usually are. I think the members have an ok time with them because they know them. I have played there many times as a guest and man, they can be tough. Ever seen a 5 putt? I have on number 9 at Rideauview. Maybe one of the most severe greens around here.

Mountain Creek's greens aren't to be taken too lightly... get a little cocky and before you know it you end up with 3 or 4 three-putts by round's end!

Stonebridge - but they're right there on the edge of crazyness...
Marshes - there's not a straight putt out there - most greens have multiple tiers
Outaouais - lightning quick and very tricky

Surprised to see mountain creek in the list .. I love their greens and usually putt under my average by 2+ strokes when I'm there

My vote is Stonebridge Stonebridge Stonebridge!

They are hard to putt on, and hard to stick ... arrrrrgh!

I've only played stonebridge once, and I surprisingly putted pretty well. I agree that they are fast and nothing sticks on them, but I like fast greens because I usually have problems getting the ball to the hole and obviously had no problems with that there. Probably beginners luck or something, because I am usually a pretty bad putter.

I can stick anything with my shots that go 1k up into the air, but putting is another story. I don't mind a course like stonebridge with super quick greens. To me, at least this year, greensmere is the toughest. They aren't all that quick, but I find it really tough to read break accurately at that course. I find, in general, that I can judge break pretty well, but at greensmere, the putts seem to break in exactly the opposite direction of where they should. Maybe its just me, but i find them really tough to read correctly.

They're good for me as I am not an agressive putter and usually leave my putts short. What I find mind boggling at the Vieux Moulins is that the ball breaks in a different direction than what I've read.

Just played The Canadian, and the greens were so fast and hard to read. All three members had never seen them this quick and tricky. Loved every put (all 43 of them ) .I would also put Vieux Moulins rigt up there .

Haven't played it for a few years, but when I used to play Le Dome(Hautes Plaines), the greens always used to be super fast, and difficult to read. Which is why it was my favorite course around, tough challenge. I know a lot of people that can vouch for this, but some days those greens would make me want to pull my hair out. I would love to play it again sometime soon.

How about Rivermead or Royal Ottawa when the Tunis or intersectionals are played there? Now those greens are tough!

Played Eagle Creek this morning, greens were very fast and a bit tricky to read. Took me at least siz holes to adjust, but I started improving on the back 9. Still had close to 40 putts, and lately I have managed to break 30, so it was tough. I play Stonebridge tomorrow so we will see how they compare.

Toughest greens I ever played were at Camelot. Of course, it was the course championship weekend, and even the member I played with said they were faster than usual.

Maybe he will invite me again when they are a bit slower.

Eagle Creek is difficult in that the breaks in the greens are for the most part much more subtle. SB is more about big breaks and being on the right tier.

Word of warning for SB, look at putts from both sides of the hole. Depending on the pin position, there are several places were if you are putting up a hill to get to a hole, the tier you are putting to slopes away from you after you get onto it.

I will definitely be looking from both sides, picked up that same lesson today. There were even a couple of double breaking putts. Yikes, those are the hardest to read.
