    New to Ottawa

    Hello all,
I just moved to Ottawa from Fredericton New Brunswick to start a new job. I have yet to play any golf courses around here. Mostly because of transportation and not knowing where to go (and not knowing any golfers).

As a 3 handicap, not getting much golf in is driving me nuts as you might imagine.
Of course, it would be aweful hard to play to a 3 now, but at least I can still crank it a mile............ that is actually a better thing for the people finding my golf balls though.

    Cheers

    Darin Amos

The ottawa area has a plethora of courses. What part of town are you in?

I am in the west end near Bayshore mall. More precise, I am across the road from the famous players movie colliseum.

    I think that link works.

Not sure what to tell you than, I'm from the dirty south and there are tones around this part. Once some more people look over this I'm sure you'll get lots of guys that play around that area.

Darin, I think the closest club to you would be Cedar Hill which is not very long or very challenging. But it is in fair shape.

I checked out Cedar Hill. Seems like a nice well kept course. Though it is rather short, I would have to play the back tees. But that would make the round very interesting. I looked at the overhead and it appeared to have alot of small doglegs. So it looks like it forces you to work the ball if you want to be aggresive. Could be a good round of golf.

Within 15-25 minute drive of you are some great courses.

Eagle Creek, a must play course for a good golfer, is further west of you. Marshes and Loch March, in the same direction, are also great courses.

Courses also to consider are Emerald Links and Stonebridge.

Darin, you are in my "pick-up" zone for a ride if you want to play some courses west of here like Greensmere for one good example, or Ceharhill too. Maybe we can hookup for a late day round during the week, not much for premium rates when I can play the course twice for the same price later in the day. I pretty much avoid weekends too, unless it is after 4PM.

Ok, I generally work until 4:30 or 5. through the week. I work in Tunny's pasture. Weekends would likely be better.
But yeah I would love to get some golf in at those courses.

Well in July it is easy enough to get there and tee off by 6PM, plenty of time to finish a round since there are usually a fair number of opens holes before you catch the group ahead.

Weekends are OK only if it is twilight rate, too expensive otherwise, and I hate long dragging rounds of golf.

I agree, depends on the course as well.

I would really like to try Greensmere. Looks like a great course. I was told the front and back 9 of the original 18 are far different, gives a good challenge to play different kinds of golf.
