Playing Lake Placid
Any recommendations for restaurants, night life? Anything i should know about the golf down there? About the drive?

I'm actually going this weekend. Its a 3 hour drive from Ottawa. I go every summer and usually do hiking and a bit of shopping. Lots of ok restaurants but not one to rave about.
This will be the first time bringing my clubs and will try the Craig Wood golf course on Sunday. I know nothing about it except it cost $28 USD on the weekends and I think $25 on the weekday. I have low expectations but will let you know when I get back.
I usually stay at the Swiss Acres motel and they have golf packages. Check it out at www.swissacres.com

It's very quiet in Lake Placid... not very good night life!

They're lots of foreign students there so they must party somewhere...I'm sure you'll find the hot spots.

If you have a chance, I'd recommend checking out the golf course in Malone. They usually have "Stay and PLay" deals where you get three nights and two days of unlimited golf with a cart. They also give you vouchers for food at Pondarosa.
I played there about 10 years ago and it was amazing golf. We played 36 holes each day. West course in the morning and the East in the afternoon.

The nightlife is pretty quiet there but it sounds like you can make your own fun anyway. A great place to stay is the Golden Arrow. Right near there is Roomer's which should be pretty busy on Saturday night. Zig Zag's is a smaller pub across the street...has the old bobsleigh in front of it. Down past the oval is Wiseguy's which has always been hit and miss.
Craig Wood has a great back 9 by the way.

It rained all weekend in Lake Placid so I didn't hike or golf
Check out Lake Placid Pub and Brewery...they have some great microbrew and try the Ubu Ale.
