Will Michelle Qualify For The US Open (PGA)?

She got through the first step, now she has to get through the 36 hole sectional qualifier in New Jersey on June 5th. Her getting through the first round of qualifying is very impressive by the way.

I don't know the field for this sectional qualifier yet, but when I find out I'll post it.

Dan, I never ever said I didn't respect her. I have nothing against her personally at all. I just hate the hype that surrounds her (the Wie-mania), as I would a male 16 year old in the same situation. I'm an underdog type of guy.

In a previous post in another thread, I mentioned that the emergence of Michelle Wie, and other female golfers, may drive more women into the sport. If anyone has a chance to look at today's Ottawa Sun's Golf Supplement, there are 2 or 3 articles on women and women's golf. Now two of them have to do with fashion, yes their hat matches their belts and shoes, but that is a big concern for women, as my experience in being married for 21 years has taught me.

    They are coming...

I hope she qualifies..... then we will see what she has in her gas tank..... It would be nice to see a few people eat crow in here (including myself).... all the best to her.... You think there is Wie-mania now, wait and see what happens if she qualifies for the open and even more so if she does well! I can see Donny's Monday morning Blog now!

It wouldn't shock me to see her qualify. All depends who's in her sectional. If she does make it, I feel bad for her. US Opens are B R U T A L!

Not likely. The next test is more difficult. Even par won't cut it.

It will be interesting how she does at the next round. I am guessing it will not be on a home hawaiian course like she played a thousand times before?

That kinda confused me when Donny mentioned New Jersey ion the qualifier because on the news this morning, they said that she was qualifying in Hawaii

I guess we will just have to wait and see

She won her regional qualifier (which was in Hawaii) and now has to do well in sectional qualifying (hers is in New Jersey). It will be very, very tough for her to do as there will be many tour pros in the same event. She will definitely have to go lower than par, I think Olin Brown shot a 59 in sectional qualifying last year (after almost withdrawing after shooting over par in the first round).

The odds are very much against her, but if she were to somehow make it through......wow.

There isn't much hotter than a cute girl on the golf course... well except maybe the beach volleyballers.

Michelle Wie is obviously an amazing athlete. A 16 year old beating adults at anything is impressive. I hope she makes it to the Open, and then we'll see how much better even the average mens tour player is than the women. Wie is longer than many of the male pros so maybe she'll fare better than Anika.

I voted no, just because I don't think she's capable yet, but I'd like to see her succeed, & I'm not saying its impossible. This would really shock and silence a lot of her detractors if she got into a truly elite-level men's event by following the normal channels. I think it would be the biggest story in the history of women's golf.

The "Fun" part of FunDonny does not exist in this household. When I got married, I had to get rid of my personalized license plates and my Mustang. I'm actually thinking of getting "FUNDADDY" as my license plates, but I don't want people thinking I'm a pimp.

Mrs. Vantage wouldn't look even if she did. No interest. I'd never bad mouth her though, she's my girl! Puts up with a lot, but never has a day of boredom!

As long as she lays down her money like everyone else, then more power to her. That being said, I don't think she'll qualify. It's the toughest open tournament in the world to get a spot in.

I agree, I don't think she stands a chance. If she does qualify, what a story though - I'm sure SI will find a way to beat her down and once again make themselves look like idiots.

Shivas, the writers took one side. Either they'll be right or wrong. I don't think they're idiots for having an opinion on the subject.

Actually Spackler, she won the local qualifier.

BTW - David Duval is in the field, and as long as he makes the cut, and returns a full 72 hole score, he's at least exempt from local qualifying next year...

I don't think there is a "side" to take - just report what happened. I didn't imply anyone is an idiot for having an opinion, but a reporter to referring to the Asian (or any other tour) as podunk, is idiotic.
