    40" driver

I'm thinking of taking an extra useless driver in my basement and cutting it down to from 45" to 40" for an experiment.

Anyone of the experienced clubmakers out there have a suggestion as to how many grams of lead tape I'll have to add to the head, or the grip end of the shaft to bring the swing weight back up?

For every 1/2" decrease in the length the swing weight will decrease approximately 3 points.

To increase the swingweight 2 grams added to the head will increase the swingweight by one point.

    Hope this helps.

    Shaft flex

If you add too much lead tape you will change the properties of the shaft flex. Your shaft will act softer with a heavier head.

    just something to concider.

Well, I'm not an expert clubmaker, but 5" and 15 total swingweight points off of any club is a lot .
You might want to but a whole roll of lead tape and just glue it to the head.
If you do have the excess driver you might just want to start with 43" or maybe 42.5", se how much lead tape you need, how it works and go from there.

5 inches is way too much imo. Heck that's shorter than a 5 wood.Besides the lie olf the club will be out of sync. Take it down to 43.5 first then take it from there. If the driver is not worth much to you drill a small 1/8 hole in the sole and add rattle glue to the head. Once you've added the glue plug the hole with a plastic plug. Or add weight down the shaft and cork it

Do hybrid shaft length follow the same rules? Let say a 17 degrees hybrid which is about a 4 wood loft, but the shaft is as short as a 3 or 4 iron. Will in still be in sync?
