world juniors coming to ottawa
Well, its official, Ottawa has won its bid to host the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2009. Should be great. Beat out Montreal, Toronto, Calgary/Edmonton, and Saskatoon/Regina.

I wonder how much the city is going to jack up our taxes to renovate Lansdowne. Someone's gotta pay for all that overtime...
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Well, it's time to eat my words. I thought it would be great next December to see all the world's best Juniors in their own event & of course, cheer on Canada to another GOLD in Ottawa.
Two types of Gouges have appeared, both at their own site.
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/2/3/1/7/6/index1.shtml
1) Packages are available only for the whole event with 17 at ScotiaBank & 14 at Landsdowne. BUT you must buy the whole package even though the games are being played at the same times day after day in both arenas. SO impossible to use the tickets no matter how badly you want to see all the games.
2) The tickets for both arenas have been designated Lower Bowl & Upper Bowl. For those of you used to Scotiabank
3 packages available:
Gold – 31 games (Lower Bowl) at $1,150 per seat**
Silver – 31 games (Upper Bowl) at $850 per seat**
Bronze – 17 games at Scotiabank Place (Upper Bowl) at $750 per seat**
**Ticket packages are subject to convenience charges of $25 per seat and a handling fee of $10 per order.
Lower Bowl includes 100 and 200 levels at Scotiabank Place and lower level, plus first 11 rows of the upper level, at the Ottawa Civic Centre.
I feel that watching on TV is the only way to get my fix, unless I'm satisfied seeing only the Scotiabank games from the boonies. I expect all the Canada games will be there but no guarantees about that.
Any other opinions folks??

Actually it the tournament is one year away. They are currently playing the 2008 World JR's in the Czech Republic.
I also thought it would be neat to go to some games until I read how Hockey Canada is selling the tickets. Hockey Canada does a lot of great stuff for our young hockey players. But there is no reason to gouge the public with these ticket packages.
I will stay home, sit in the recliner and watch the games in HD.My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

750 dollars for 17 games at Scotiabank seems like a pretty good deal.
Though, I do agree, they really should differentiate between the levels, and allow more flexibility in ticket buying.

I never look at thread dates, I look at the last post date
Either way I still think it is too much money for tickets considering you can not watch all the games.
Toss in motel room, meals, travel and you are going to lay out a big chunk of cash to watch those games.
I think I still prefer the 42 Inch HD option, and cheaper beer tooMy opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I was also quite disappointed. We were thinking of inviting relatives to Ottawa for Christmas next year and entice them with tickets.
The only possibility is to buy two seats for the 31 games and have two people attend every game. The travel logisitics from Orleans would be difficult, not to mention the cost, and deciding who gets to see Canada play and who doesn't.

This is just a marketing stunt to sell packages. Game tickets will be available a few months before the puck drops although the price will be pretty steep. This is a perfect setup for scalpers and companies.
Can I buy individual tickets or just tickets to the Team Canada games?
Currently, only 31-game or 17-game ticket packages are available. Individual tickets or tickets to a specific game are not available at this time, and depending on demand and sales, may not be available at a future date.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

We should have a good team next year since this year’s team is very young and most will be back next season.

Every bidding city puts submits a profit quarantee. The biggest quarantee usally wins the big.
The CHL does the same thing for the Memorial Cup.
$12 million is just about right. They should make that with ease if the tickets sell. If Team Canada wins the gold on Saturday that will help ticket sales. Plus remember there will be tickets sold to the European teams etc.
All you need to do is look at the number of Canadians attending the event in the Czech Republic. Now that would be $$$$$ spent!
The IIHF loves it when Canada hosts the tournament, most of the games are sold out. not so in Europe and USA.
